heading into this last 2 week stretch- Joe has us at a 5 seed in Seattle playing Yale along with Michigan and Lipscomb. I'd take that right now

Auburn/Bama/Fla- 1
Tenn- 2
A&M/Kentucky- 3
State/Mizzou- 5
Mississippi- 6
Texas- 9
Vandy/UPig- 11

12 teams in

OU and Georgia first 4 out

OU needs a win against us badly tomorrow

8 out of the top 20 seeds and 9 out of the top 24?

That obviously can't change, but did the heyday of the Big East or ACC every have that strong of seeding?

The old Big East got 11 out of a 16 team conference in the tournament back in 2011. That's the record. So barring a couple of SEC teams just falling apart down the stretch, the SEC will break the record. I still think we get 13 teams in personally.

I want to avoid every SEC team for as long as possible in the tournament. Our conference is so good this year, any team can beat any team on any given night in the SEC this season. This is the best group of coaches from top to bottome I think we've ever had in the history of our conference.

Agreed but with this many teams we going to meet likely in at least sweet 16.

Mizzou is way under rated. I think they are at worst the 2nd best team in SEC and maybe even playing better than Auburn. Would hate to see Mizzou in my bracket early. They get a good draw, I'm picking them to Final 4.

Mizzou has to make shots. They are also extremely streaky and play LESS THAN ZERO defense. If they don't show up, they'll get beat in Rd 1. I would stay far away from making them my pick to make it to San Antonio.

The top half of the SEC +1 is:

1. Auburn
2. Florida
3. Bama
4. Tennessee
5. Mizzou
6. State
7. A&M
8. OM
9. Kentucky

We should've beaten Kentucky by double digits. They haven't played even close to that well since.

Very true Mizzou scares me alot, they are a legit top 15 team. Having success in the tournament has alot to do with matchups, I think we match up well with alot of teams but I wouldn't want to see them any time soon. I do feel like we have another gear we can turn on and beat anyone we face. Yes we had up and down moments this year but when we get rolling, there are alot of teams that don't want to see us either.

They are 9-4 in conference play and beat Florida, Ole Miss, us, LSU, Vandy, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Georgia and Alabama. Streaky or not those wins say alot. Other than the Auburn loss the other 3 losses we close games.

They also lost to Texas by 8 when Texas couldn't win their way out of a wet paper sack. They are going to struggle against teams that play good defense. Same thing happened to them 2 years ago. They got to the tournament and ran up against a Princeton team that sat down and guarded their ass off and they struggled. It's a trademark of Gates' teams. They have to be hot from 3 or be playing a team that doesn't play defense. Otherwise, they are going to struggle.

Look at who they've lost to this year in conference. Auburn, Tennessee, A&M, and Texas. Outside of Texas, all those teams guard their ass off every night. Mizzou also doesn't have a guy that can just go get them a basket when it matters. Bates can be that guy when he's on and so can Mitchell, but they have to be on and they are streaky. Grill is strictly just a shooter and teams that play defense know to just run him off the 3 pt line.

They beat us 88-61 in the Hump, and we are supposedly a defensive team. Two of their 4 non conference losses were against #4 Tennesse and #10 Texas A&M by a combined 7 points. Yes Missouri has its weaknesses but this isn't the same Missouri team as last year.

My man, we're 161 in scoring defense. We're 310 in 3pt % defense. That's not a defensive team. We're 64th in TOs forced so I guess we have that going for us.

And no crap it isn't the same Mizzou team as last year. That Mizzou team had 326 injuries and were 0-18 in the league. This Mizzou team is actually healthy.

Lol, listen to what you are saying. You are saying Missou has to make shots, needs to play a team that plays zero defense and if they dont show up they will lose in the 1st round. Um, I think that goes for every team in the tournament... not sure why you are downplaying Missouri's season like you are but they are just as much as a threat as any other ranked SEC team.

Auburn can beat you in numerous ways, Florida can beat you in numerous ways, Ole Miss can beat you in numerous ways, heck we can beat people in numerous ways. Mizzou has to be hitting 3s. You run them off the 3 pt line and you beat them. The 3 ball sets up everything else they do. They aren't hitting and you can just pack it in. Their offense is contingent on hitting 3s because it spaces out the floor and lets them set those backscreens and cross screens for Mitchell and Bates to cut to the basket. Does that make them a bad team? No. But people are overrating them because they scored a lot of points against Bama. Hell we scored a bunch of points against Bama.

For example, we can go to Hubb and get a basket. Or Murphy. Or if all else fails Matthews will run 22 dive down the middle of the lane. Auburn has Harris, Mazzara, Broome, the big guy, etc. Florida has Clayton who can just straight get a bucket. Ole Miss turns up the pressure and will turn you over.

Mizzou lost lot of games early. Yeah they lost at Aub but on the road. Every team has some off nights.

Aub has been most consistent all year but Mizzou is torching everyone. Aub played Mizzou in Columbia, Aub gets an L. Mizzou can shoot the lights out every night.

Yep as I said anyone can be beat. Mizzou has more home wins than anyone in the nation at 17 I believe.

I do wonder if part of last week - Jans said **** it and went back to our old ways from the last two seasons. Maybe it was just OM and Aggy being worse on O, but we weren't just constantly giving up the wide open 3 the last two games. Defense went from shitty to stingy overnight with really no holes. It feels similar schematically, so maybe it was just an attitude adjustment.

If that's all it takes for us to succeed under Jans then we need to pay him. Eventually we'll get the formula of:

Star who can get a bucket
3&D Wing X4
Point who can direct the offense
Post Presence X2
Defensive Swiss Army Knife X2

That's Jans ideal 10 man rotation. Currently these are my opinions of where guys we have are at percentage wise of what we'd need to win a championship
Hubbard - 90% of Star
Kugel - 80% 3 / 50% D
Melendez - 40% 3 / 90% D
Harris - 90% 3 / 75% D
Jones - 10% 3 / 100% D
Warren - 20% Point
Murphy - 80% Post
Nwoko - 70% Post
Cam - 85% Swiss
____ - 0% Swiss

Mizzou is an absolute nightmare match up for us. At the same time, I?m not sold overall that they are as good as Aub,UF, Bama or Tenn. They live and die by the 3 but any team that does that will beat us due to our bad 3 point defense. We do much better against solid defensive teams like aTm, Ole Miss, Georgia, etc. The teams with high powered offenses are bad for us. That is why I think we lose to OU and Bama but win the other 3 because we match up better vs the other 3. Ark will be a toss up but I?m leaning we win it

32nd in the country in Adj Defensive Efficiency. For comparison purposes, we were 21st last year. 11th the year before that.

So yeah, we're not quite as good as we've been in years past, but it's not like we're bad. We've sacrificed a little defense to add offense.

We're 29th in Off Eff and 32nd in Def Eff so we're the definition of a well balanced team even though it doesn't feel like it sometimes.

ESPN ticker nailed it:

Allowing less than 85 points- we are 19-2
Allowing more than 85? 0-6
