Pico looked like a #1 today.

Previous Pico de Gallo was throwing 88-90. Not overpowering by any means but was a competitive guy on the mound. Today he was 94-93 with that rolling CB that had some bite. I'm not judging what he did today vs a below average Manhattan team. I'm judging on what he was throwing today.

That guy can win us beisball games

I agree. Regardless of competition, if you getting the edge for backwards Ks and getting swing and miss on your off speed, you can be very effective. The quality teams have hitters that can make you pay if you throw 0-2 fastballs down the middle or a mistake hanging belt high off speed. But if you are hitting you spots and making them guess what's next, then the effectiveness elevates against talented hitters too. Next Friday night will be a big test for consistency and the Houston trip will tell us for sure if he is a legit #1

Yes he is. And Pico is also finally healthy. He was essentially rehabbing most of the year last year and really wasn't able to go up against a SEC team until we played the Governor's Cup.

Ligon was almost as impressive as well. Hopefully that continues to carry over.

Thing is- EVERY SINGLE PITCHER except for Pruett threw strikes and didn't walk people. And we saw what happened today. Didn't matter if it was a freshman like Charlie Foster or if it was a veteran guy like Pico. Or a guy like Ben Davis that was a JUCO who struggled at that level and now he is throwing 95 and dominating people.

I know Manhattan is awful. But throwing strikes and having great command plays up.

That to me is the biggest difference between Foxhall and Parker sitting in the stands- Foxhall was much more about generating velocity and getting people to chase. Parker cares more about pitch efficiency which is a fancy of way of saying a 92 MPH fastball with movement and high spin is more effective than a 97 MPH fastball that is flat. Parker wants our guys to ATTACK the hitter. Best way to win a match up as a pitcher? Get strike one.

And the ironic thing is the velocity is there and the K's are there.

I've also heard that Parker is way more hands on than Foxhall as well. We're actually developing pitchers now. And I think it's going to be more evident this year than last year.

I'll say this on your behalf. Ceiling wise Pico doesn't have the ceiling of a guy like an Ethan Small or a JT Ginn. That doesn't mean he can't be good or be a SEC ace. Khal Stephen doesn't have the ceiling Small of Ginn did either.

Imagine what our pitching is going to look like when guys like Foster, maybe Landon Harmon, Makhai Grant and etc. have been in the program for 2-3 years. We're going to be nasty.

100%. His whole career so far he's looked like a Sunday guy, outside of a few standout performances. Nice jump for Pico.

Fixed it for you. But don't jinx him. He had very few strings or "thinking" to do yesterday.
