What an atmosphere, what a game, and what a night. The energy in the building last night willed us. Those are the types of crowds and energy we have been searching for since 2012.

1. Riley Kugel is unquestionably the biggest acquisition of the portal IN ANY SPORT at Mississippi State since the portal became a thing. Him not being able to qualify at Kansas and literally falling into our lap is the most un-Mississippi State thing to ever happen to the program.

2. We do not win that game in years past. I saw us lose that exact type of game dozens of times in the Howland era and have watched us lose that type of game a couple of times under Jans.

3. I said it 3 weeks ago and I will repeat it again, our portal class being outside the top 40 was, and definitely is now, an absolute joke. There are 40 teams who would fall over themselves to have the trio of Melendez, Harris, and Kugel right now.

4. Kugel is our best player and it is not even close. And here?s a little secret, he has been our best player since day 1. The talent for Kugel has always been off the charts and on an NBA level, but he just lost the confidence last year. He has found it and is playing at that level once again. From an NBA talent standpoint, he probably is our best player since Hood.

5. Whatever the hell is going on with Hubbard needs to be fixed. His confidence looks shot. He?s just not shooting with the type of unabashed confidence he did last year. For us to reach our potential, he needs to figure it out.

6. We have to find a PG. If Clary is not going to come back, which looks less and less likely by the game, we need to find one. Whether that be getting Warren some baptism by fire minutes or telling Harris or Matthews they need to do it, we have to find a true PG. Hubbard is just not that and I think that is part of the issue with him, I think he?s trying to do a bit too much.

7. I do not think it is an overstep to say this, the Melendez block and Kugel 3 sequence may have saved our season. They convert that and make it a 3 pt lead, I do not know if we could recover because they had EVERY BIT of momentum at that moment and it just flipped.

8. That is a damn good Ole Miss team. No way around it, that is a team that will be in the NCAAT and will win games. Beard building them up is just as impressive as what Jans has done here.

9. To the people that complain about people getting excited and getting into the game, please do us all a favor and go watch the game at home. Maybe someone with some school spirit will get your seats and make it an even better atmosphere. It is one thing to not be able to stand due to a legit reason, but to sit there the entire game, not cheering, is just BS. And by the way, completely your right to do that, but do not then complain about someone else standing and getting into the ballgame. You cannot have it both ways.

10. I know we have a lot of people that call Jans ?The Dentist? but for what he has done to this program and winning to create the atmosphere we have, you should call him ?The Doctor? because he has resurrected this program.

11. This is a S16 to E8 team presently. Get Hubbard right and the F4 is within reach. Obviously it takes a good draw to get to that point, but at full strength, we can stay on the court with anyone.

12. I actually went to the women?s game today and holy crap, they may be the worst ball handling team I have ever seen. I think 23 or 24 TOs and most were not the result of good defense. Purcell is going to have his work cut out for him to fix them.

3. Nwoko is a really nice piece too.

Think the crowd is back for good or just Kentucky/OM deal?

Agree on Nwoko. On the crowd, I think it is back. We are also aided by the fact that we really do not play any bad home games this year. It will be a war and a potential T25 team every time we take the court.

A great overall take. Finding someone to even adequately handle point guard will determine our top end at S16 or E8.

And not sure about everywhere in the Hump, but no one around us --- young or old --- was on their keisters for that game. It was ELECTRIC!!!

A) Good post SVD. We dont have a true PG if its not Clary. So the next move is to spread it between Cam/Kugel/Hubb. That is our way forward.

B) Kugel is now living up to the talent. He is getting more consistent in being "that guy". He had his disappearing act vs Candy- but overall is playing the best ball of his college career now. He is the Dude for us.

C) The RJ/Cam/Kugel sequence is the best highlight for this program in the last 10 years at least

D) We have committed to Jan- I hope he commits to us for a decade. He can do some good shit here.

Us showing up at games again would probably go a long way in keeping Jans

With teams like this- I dont see it being a problem. This is Richard Williams 1990's/Stands early 2000's energy.

And he's only a sophmore.

1. Any sport? I can think of several players that made amazing contributions including basketball (Lawrence Roberts for one). Hopefully your statement will become true, but Riley is streaky. Once he becomes consistent and not "injured", we can talk.
2. I agree, the momentum had shifted and it wasn't looking good for the Bulldogs.
3. I saw it from the beginning of the season, after researching each of the players we secured. I did not know about the Kansas thing with Riley, but that makes sense. Sort of lessens Shak going there as he was one of my favorite players from last season.
4. He has a lot of talent, but his mindset is his weakness. Once he truly believes in himself, he can be next level. In terms of measurements of the word "best", this year's MSU team's BEST player is Cam Mathews. He is the glue of our team.
5. Josh is in a classic ?sophomore slump?. It's fixable, he has to just believe again.
6. This will be our undoing tournament time unless someone steps up and handles the rock. Jans subtlety tried to get Josh?s mindset to change with the internal bragging about the country's best Assist/Turnover Ratio, but that's not the case now.
7. Huge play, but "saved the season"? That's a bit of stretch considering its January. May be play of the decade thus far.
8. Yeah, I hate saying it but they are a solid team.
9. As an observer from 700 miles away watching on TV, the crowd did seem really good. Yet, there are numerous individuals in the expense seat sitting there like they are watching opera. No emotion, clapping, nothing. It looks pathetic on television.
Also, there seemed to be numerous times during timeouts and breaks when the crowd were eerily quiet. Like waiting for something.
Does the pep band not initiate cheers with the crowd anymore? I heard a DJ spinning some incomprehensible garbage on a YouTube video?
10. No
11. I refuse to say the F4 out loud.
12. Purcell can recruit. Cannot ?in game? coach though. A more extreme version of Stansbury's traits, even better recruiter and even worse coach.

The Hump atmosphere is definitely back. I've been telling my kids about it for years they have finally got to see it this year. My junior this year down there said it was awesome Sat.

9. the band has to sit for designated periods for said DJ to get all crunk on incomprehensible forms of so called music. gotta justify paying him as opposed to having pre planned music played like since the invention of the microphone.

He said portal, not transfer in regards to number one.

Coach did you say somewhere that Kugel was looking at going to Kansas but did not get in?

What were the circumstances of that and why did he leave Florida? I assume he had lost his confidence and wasn't playing very much/

Essentially trading Shakeel Moore for Riley Kugel is a good deal.

I didnt say it but yeah- Kugel has had some issues. He was considered a great talent but was a mixed bag as a freshman. Then there was the Kansas thing and he landed here. Jan and staff has apparently reached this young dude and he is starting to really shine. He is a star if he will continue to stay on the road he is on.
