For the past decade or more, fans have complained about the atmosphere and attendance at basketball games. Now that attendance and atmosphere are back, we have fans wants people to sit down at games. It is the older crowd that wants fans to sit down, shut up and we are spoiled.

She is a loon. I truly wish she would stop coming to State sporting events. She complains about everything. I have had her muted on Twitter for about 5 years but I still see some the crap she says because she will go after other State fans who do not agree with her viewpoint.

Go sit at home and watch on TV if you want an unobstructed view of the game. Being at the game is about the experience of the setting and soaking in the atmosphere. TV is if you want to watch the perfect view and see everything perfectly in the game. Being mad at people showing emotion in the crowd, especially fans of the home team, is just being a self-centered main character. Go watch golf or tennis, if you'll notice - those players skew snobby and spoiled, so probably right up your alley of company you want to keep. Basketball, baseball, football... not your crowd so why are you here taking a seat away from someone who'd actually enjoy being at the game.

Her making a bad take is one thing, but she should've just deleted the tweet when it started to blow up to save herself from any more bashing. I hate an elderly lady is getting bullied on the internet, but she did it to herself and she's even doubled down on it.

Unironically, Zac Selmon could win a whole lot of fanbase favor by publicly praising that kid and saying that he and Coach Jans want people showing emotion and passion for our top 10 basketball program. Someone still on twitter DM him and ask him to weigh in his thoughts.

Everyone that has a ticket to a game is allowed to stand up. If you don?t like it, get a seat closer.

Ah, this is where your whole argument for a ticket falls apart. The ticket is for a seat not for a standing room only area. While it is customary to stand at particular exciting times during a game, standing the whole game or even a large portion thereof is obnoxious for those sitting behind you. You can actually cheer and clap sitting as well as standing - I know, a novel concept for you young jug heads. How would like to be sitting next to the Vanderbilt whistler? He is not blocking anyones view but he sure is obnoxious and decreases the enjoyment of others attending the game, according to popsters on this site, and so it is for those who do not or cannot stand 100 times during a game.

Is attending a game only for the under 35 crowd? If it is for the under 35, then donations will decrease dramatically as it is usually the older population that has the disposable income to meaningfully contribute to college sports - think about that all of you NIL guys.

It has been noted in this post that the lady in question, that complained, is older and maybe she or her husband cannot "physically" stand up after every play. What ever happened to common decency or manners where we at least try to not piss off others sitting around us at a game. Common courtesy is a thing of the past - yuck!

Stay at home francis. Common courtesy is understanding that you who purchased one ticket do not matter more than the other 10K folks.

Buy courtside or stay at home if you want an unobstructed view.

The lady in question is an ass. I am tired of being nice about it. We need to rid the fanbase of people like her, and her specifically. She thinks she is hot shit because she won a ladies football clinic combine like 4 years ago. She consistently bashes fans who do not share her opinion and just doubles down when people call her out. It is nauseating.

It is one thing to ask a kid to sit down because you cannot see because you cannot stand. It is another thing to post about it on Twitter and think you are hot shit and people are going to agree with you. It is worse to then double down on it when people say your take is dumb as hell. Everyone around her needs to stand the entire time at the next game. She is the exact type of person that will pull a Karen and try to get them thrown out.

It's pretty obvious looking at her Twitter feed. She is only upset because she posts clips of nearly every bucket made and the kid was messing up her video. She couldn't get clear shots on some baskets, and that made her mad.

I don't know her, nor follow her on Twitter - but the comparison to the bus driver seems appropriate. Both seem to think they're some sort of self-appointed fan ambassador or something.

Yeah this needs to be nipped in the bud before we have blue hairs getting really upset over this. At Kentucky they have game attendants go tell younger people that are standing up in the blue hairs section to sit down constantly while the older crowd is sitting on their thumbs not making any noise and that fanbase is really at odds with each other over that.

I think the response has nipped it in the bud. 99.9% of people have told her she is a blue haired Karen and needs to get over it. I do think it would be humorous if Jans came out and said we need everyone on their feet for 60 minutes on Saturday.

Let me see if I can moderate this discussion some. Not trying to exacerbate the situation and I'm definitely not trying to stand up for MarronMary. Heck, I would be standing and cheering as much as I could if I was able to come. Just trying to add some perspective.

When I was younger I thought my parents were insane and I loved loud music. The older I've gotten the smarter my parents have become and I can't stand loud music. It's not that I don't like music, it's that it physically hurts when it's loud now. With that said for some older folks it's physically impossible to stand for.long periods of time. Just saying.

So, I'm sure the older folk would love to have courtside seats if they can afford it to have an unobstructed view. However if they did, aren't those the coveted seats that the students are demanding. And, older folk are more prone to not coming to games for weather and health related reasons (empty seats).

So do you want old folk to come to the game or not? Or do you just prefer that they wander off and die? I really don't think thats what you want. I was always taught by my parents, who keep getting smarter, to respect your elders. They've earned it.

I live 3 hours from Starkville. After I graduated in '93 I would routinely drive to Starkville for midweek basketball and drive back home after the game. Did this for probably 10 years before kids, work, and life made it difficult. I may try it this year but even if my old ass made the drive it would be difficult for me to stand a majority of the game. But it would be stupid for the current version of me to yell at a younger version of me who can stand a lot.
We talk about younger generations being spoiled but older generations can be pretty spoiled too.

Before every game they make an announcement over the loudspeakers about what is acceptable behavior. The "no obscene language towards players, officials, blah, blah, blah" speech. To me that kind of outlines what is and isn't acceptable at a game for all ages.

I don't recall "no flexing your muscles" in the speech. Plus, this fan was not even in the row in front of her. He was like at least 2-3 rows down.

And to be fair I don't recall "no softball chants" in the speech either. And that would maybe annoy me. I would probably ignore it since it's an elderly female. I sure as hell wouldn't take it to Twitter and tag a MSU athlete about it.

Tater
01-06-2025, 02:09 AM
Pretty simple. If you go to a 10K+ person event, some are gonna stand and some are gonna sit.

Is it mandatory for you to stand? No.

If you're at a concert and in the pit and try to sit.. lol.

Go sit up high. Go sit courtside. Go sit at home. *IF* someone else standing up during/after big plays and pivotal moments is a problem for you.

If you need to sit, but it's not a problem for you that some others stand, then by all means come.

Someone said this is a more-MSU thing but no, it's actually a post covid thing. A lot of folks got spoiled and entitled by sparse seating and watching stuff perfectly at home and now expect the game to be "a better version of home." Thats not at all the case.

Literally explained it to a coworker that moved from India (and got his legal formal citizenship). Theres different sections to every sporting event. Usually upper/mid/lower levels. At his first NASCAR race, it was pretty apparent to see the differences in the 3 because we moved around.

Upper Level - see the whole track, best for watching the game if you truly care to watch the actual sport.
Lower Level - experience the event, best for people wanting to feel the energy of a massive event (lots of standing happens here).
Mid Level - typically best of both worlds and reserved for suites very commonly.

This ladies problem is she wants the view of the upper level and to eliminate the experience of the lower level. Just stay home if that's the case.

There seems to be some confusion about my post. I thought I made it clear that I wasn't trying to defend the idiot in question but make a more general statement about the complexities of getting old. The idiot is an idiot no doubt.

However while the majority of the posts have focused on the idiocy of the idiot, a few have slid into the realm of bashing "old folks". Even the OP mentioned old folks in his post. Idiots come in all shapes, sizes, and ages. I seem to remember a few 17 to 20 year olds (young folks) throwing bottles at the referees at a particular Kentucky game a few years ago. Again idiots will be idiots. I've been an idiot a time or two myself as I'm sure all of you have.

Anyway, all I'm saying is try to be respectful regardless of age. If you can't be, go ahead and be obnoxious and rude. It's your right to be an idiot apparently.
