We are getting no respect and the AP still thinks Ole Miss is good.

At the end of the day, I doesn't matter what the AP voters think. It matters what Dan Gavitt and the committee think. We know from previous tourneys, the current committee really values metrics. Our metrics are night and day compared to theirs.

Agree all that is true in the end.

But part of the value of having a great season and team like this is to be ranked properly through the year.

Kids become fans as your team is ranked high during the year.

There is plenty of time and you are right.

Just making the point that it is important.

If we're the team we think we are, the ranking will come. The SEC is a gauntlet. If you take today's top 25, we play 1,2,5,6,10,12,13,23, and 24. And we play a few of those twice.

Unreal.

Unreal.

But I mean that's every SEC team. No one has an easy schedule. The SEC is as good, and probably better, than the ACC was in it's heyday in the mid 2000s when they got 11 teams in.

Not sure why Mike Hlas ranked Ole Miss at #7. I've never really cared about the basketball top 25, but I have interacted some with football voters over the years, and the overwhelming attitude from them is that they don't have time to do research and just kinda wing it and don't know why anyone cares what the rankings are.

I agree. Being ranked is free exposure.

The reason imo it is good to be ranked as high as possible early in the year is the committee regards ranked high teams with different importance than if not ranked. Also it forces the committee to at least read about or watch the higher ranked teams because those teams will have a higher probability of being in the tourney. But above all just keep playing well and winning.

That was last week. Hlas though was apparently so enamored by the USM drubbing he decided OM was a T10 team. We'll see what he shook out this week when someone gets ahold of all the data.

Mike Hlas unranked the bear sharks

Dave Preston is an idiot for ranking them #15. (And us at #19)
Randy Heitz is an idiot for ranking them #17. (And us at #20)

But the real prize idiot. (And one their fans have seemingly upvoted on the website) is Zach Klein. Ranking them at #18 and us being left off: https://collegepolltracker.com/basketball/pollster/zach-klein/2024/week-9

Jeff Rabjohns is also an idiot having Memphis State at 23, Bearshark 24, us unranked.

Jon Wilner consistently has the worst overall poll every week. He also has OM at 19 and us unranked. I don't think this is actual bias against us I just think he's a total idiot. He's been the worst football and basketball pollster for years. But like in college football now, the college basketball poll doesn't mean much.

Gonna be an exciting Sec season, Jans being 34-4 or 5 in non-conference games is great, he is headed to being our best ever since Babe McCarthy era. Being a little off last night but winning by 14 points good. Basketball is so much different than football games, same with baseball. Not sure average fans realize the difference or know the difference.

He has a ways to go to even catch Stansburry. Pump the brakes here.

Jans has played pretty good non conference schedules to get that record. Stansbury typically played cupcakes and would lose to several of them. Jans is a much better overall coach than Stansbury but Stansbury was a great recruiter

Jans want Coach at MSU as long as Stan’s did. Times have changed with salaries plus Stan’s married a local girl. But Jans will do better in NCAA tourney.

Probably got us confused with them? seriously

I will give the Pitt Reporter, Stephen Thompson, some credit. He clearly watched our game and realized "oh, they're damn good" and has consistently ranked us higher than everyone else in the AP.
