This may not be 100% true- but is likely pretty close. On3 reported Mizzou getting their QB the other day for $3MM

All we're doing is trying to build a team that can go 6-6/7-5 at this point moving forward

I would need to see a lot of context before I started taking these numbers as the gospel. There’s no way these schools and coaches are guaranteeing kids that type of money without actual performance incentives. There’s no way these initiatives have that much guaranteed money to throw around yearly.

Fox News Brett Baier had a short the other day on NIL interviewing PineBox Tommy. In it they talked about how Ohio State had paid over $20MM for this year's team
Nick Saban on GameDay just days ago talked about the rising costs of NIL are exploding
Miami basketball coach Jim Larranaga literallly retired today- during the season- saying he was tired of dealing with NIL.

There will be a point where a lot more fans lose interest. May be years away but it's coming. To the point where if you're lucky enough to be a fan of a team that can play big money ball it just won't feel as enjoyable and rewarding to win.

I'm already there. We are going to pay $12M for our next football team to hopefully get to 6 wins. This would get us a bowl where half our team will be either in the portal or shopping around again. Just to have fans be asked to donate more to get us to 8-9 wins to go to another bowl where half the team opts out again. I mean - what is the point - what is our end goal? Where will we get a return on that investment. I hate NIL, but feel it's a terrible investment for us in football regardless.

I thought the joke was OM paid 20 MM to go to the Gator Bowl. Someone mentioned the other day that Tenn paid an enormous sum for their QB and it looked like it was a bad investment.

And the on the field product is going to suck. Peeps will start deciding to find another interest so ratings will decline as will the main source of income when the TV execs tell the NCAA time to renegotiate TV deals.

State fans have to get the amounts of the NIL offers out of their heads. To the average joe, no athlete will ever be worth what they are paid in college or otherwise. Is player x worth 3 millions? Is player y worth 30 million? Sports stars make big bucks. Now they're just doing it earlier than we're used to, but for years they've made obscene amounts of money. The absolute worst nfl players who will never see the field will make more than I make in years. The market dictates the rate. We just need to focus on getting the guys we want the way we always have and the ones dealing with the money worry about the money and decide which player is worth it or not.

*This is not a post supporting NIL and high salaries. This is a post saying that too many of you have a misplaced focus.

Man where do you go to seek out one of the fewer than 10 kids who went through the necessary rules and protocols to play sports where it's "in front of your face"? I know your ass didn't travel to the mountain west to watch women's volleyball.

We've got bigger fish to fry in the ncaa than trying to worry about having more stringent rules than the Olympics for non-revenue sports. And you need to find sources that don't argue in front of courts that their news shows "cannot reasonably be interpreted as facts" and the judge agrees that "the statements are rhetorical hyperbole and opinion commentary intended to frame a political debate, and, as such, are not actionable as defamation". Parroting Fox News is like parroting Rachel Maddow. Both have argued in front of courts that they spout opinions, not facts.

So go back to the drawing board and get real sources for the numbers please.

There isn't an endless amount of money that everyone thinks but keeps preaching. The collapse will come either in a wimper, slowly or a big implosion. Probably be a wimper as some will sell their first born to buy what they thiink is a winning team.

The woke movement during Covid caused all this mess.

There is no actual "news" anymore. 60 minutes is no more reliable than CNN. But every network throws facts mixed in with opinion. Bret is every bit as reliable as a Chuck Todd in today's world. There's a reason Litte George and ABC are paying Trump $15MM- they dont care about being factual anymore. The FCC just sent a strongly worded letter to Eisner about cleaning up their act.

But the point of the piece he did with Tooberville was what did he think Congress could do to address what is going on with the NCAA

One thing that has helped me get thru us being so bad the past 2 years is that I have never cared less about the results in college football. Most players could not care less who they are playing for it's just all about extorting schools and fans for more money.

Yep, it's unfortunate. I always loved college sports more than the pros because it was kids playing hard for love of the game and for their school. Now it's just mercenaries and it's really hard to fall in love with players who quit halfway through the season or don't finish the season and so many of them won't even be on your team next year. My interest has started to wane.

Gonna be when a P5 school tells a G5 star or a P5 backup, Think Fl St, to go pound sand. Then when that player gets told enough times to go pound sand then this hyper inflation will stop. Hated to see MVB go but if its true about his demands then Lebby made the right call and more coached need to do the same. For every Vandy QB there might be 10 busts.

Indiana fans thought this last year.

State as a program still has opportunity to do what we've always had as a ceiling, compete for a sec champ game berth but probably finish at best 3rd/4th. Get a playoff invite on 10-2. Maybe get lucky with seeding and be a Penn State, but more likely get smacked by a more talented team w/ 2+ weeks to prepare.

Now next year we don't have that and you probably need a better coach. But within the next 10 years that's totally possible for one of the year's outcomes. And that's always been State football's ceiling. So how are we exactly dead?

Indiana was a sham this year and benefitted from a weak schedule we could never hope to get. They didnt play Penn St/Oregon/USC/Minnesota. They played Michigan at home along with Noodle Arm against Washington.

Indiana is a 6-6/7-5 team in the SEC. And they had their best case scenario play out this year

This is both pu$$y and shortsighted (but for a guy with nicknamed after a fuzzy stone-fruit, I'm not surprised).

Men's basketball yes, but Women's Bball is a bigger sport nationally compared to baseball, as much as that pains me to say. We are doing plenty for baseball.

To just "give up" on football, as you're suggesting, is literally committing suicide as an athletic department, not to mention the downstream impact that would likely have on enrollment, cache of the other sports, and not to mention our continued inclusion in the SEC as conference realignment continues....as I said: SUICIDE.

They used to say a sea captain getting on the lifeboat was a ***** way out but as we have grown intellectually we have realized it was actually the smart thing to do. It's better to lose a ship than lose a captain.

We can pull back money and play our future role in SEC football- doormat. Because that is our future whether you want it or not. We will get the same paycheck the rest of the SEC does. We have done a good job in the portal this stretch- and all it has done is give us a chance at 6 wins. It hasnt given us anything above that no matter how much you guys want it to be so.

You can lie and say women's basketball is more popular than baseball but it clearly isnt. When we measure attendance in the SEC and ratings it does not measure up to baseball. Now the national tourney on women's basketball does better than the CWS- but not in SEC territory. LSU/State/Mississippi/A&M/UPig?Texas/ and maybe Tenn all average a higher home attendance in baseball than women's basketball. Probably Bama/Fla and the rest of the SEC also sans South Carolina. Tenn and SC are the only SEC women's bball teams with a decent attendance

2026 if the schedule stays the same: SCar, Bama, OM, LSU, UK, Vandy, OU, Auburn. Not a single playoff team on that schedule. 2014 State would probably go 10-2 against that schedule. Still our same ceiling.

NIL, the transfer portal, and "kids" playing football for 9-10 years in college has ruined it for me. It's hard to be a fan anymore. Cam Rising graduated high school the same year as Trevor Lawrence and is coming back for another year of college? And Juco years don't count against your eligibility at a 4-year school anymore? The SEC schools would be idiots to take high school kids anymore. You could literally have a team full of 25 year old Jr's and Sr's every season.
