Well folks yesterday was an incredible day inside of FedEx Forum, and I've had some fun ones with the Grizzlies over the years. We were dominant from the tip and it was great to shut their fans up from almost start to finish.

1. We played well yesterday and still played sloppy at times. I thought for the most part we were locked in but there were definitely stretches where you could see we lost focus. I thought our shot selection AT TIMES was really puzzling. That is the scary thing with this team. We had bad stretches and BLEW OUT a top 20 team on their home court in front of the biggest crowd they've had in years.

2. We have to get Kanye Clary back. I don't know when that will happen but for this team to take that next step, he needs to return and return to the point. Hubbard is good, but he is still more of a 2 guard than a true 1. And just to quell any rumors, because I've seen them, THIS IS NOT AN ANDREW TAYLOR SITUATION. Clary is legitimately hurt and is still with the team.

3. Defensively we were locked in yesterday. I loved our D against Pitt, but it seemed like we turned it up even a notch yesterday. Memphis is so damn athletic and we shut them down. They could not run, we were jumping passing lanes, and we bothered Hagerty all day.

4. Hubbard is good, but we need to get him to great again. I thought Memphis bothered him with their length yesterday, evidenced by his 5 TOs(he'd had 3 all season coming into the game). He's still Hubbard and is still good but he seems to just be a little off right now.

5. Riley Kugel. It's plainly obvious what Ben Howland saw in this kid when he recruited him 4 years ago. If he's on, you can see the lottery pick potential. The good news for us is, that he doesn't have to be on every night. We have so many pieces that him being on is an added bonus.

6. Claudell Harris has started to really win me over. He just makes winning plays and hustle plays. I was worried he was going to be Trey Fort 2.0 after he lit it up the first game and then disappered but it's been great to see him lock in and start to really help us on the defensive end.

7. This portal class was undervalued. We brought in the 43rd ranked portal class in America accd. to 247. About 30 of the teams in front of us would kill to have the tandem of Melendez, Harris, and Kugel. This was a top 15 class disguised as an average class becuase we haven't even mentioned Michael Nwoko who, although he got in foul trouble yesterday, has really started to come along.

8. I don't know what Jans said to Murphy to get him to come back, but whatever he said worked. He's been locked in from the jump this year and it's really paid off. The talent has always been there, but it's just been can he stay locked in. He has and he's a big reason that we're 11-1.

9. This is Jans most talented team, and our most talented team since 2003-2004. He told people privately in June and July that he thought this team had the ability to be the best team he has ever coached. That has come into fruition. We are long at every position except Hubbard, we are extremely athletic at EVERY POSITION. And something we haven't been in a LONG TIME, we're deep. We're 8-9 deep and we haven't been that in a long time. Not saying we haven't played that many players, but the difference now is the guys we bring in can play at the same level as the guys they are replacing.

10. We have the ability and talent to be playing basketball in San Antonio the first weekend in April.

It was the most fun game I've attended in person in a long, long time, it felt just like an NCAA tournament game. It was pretty packed and it was loud at the beginning. I'm glad we never really let them get back in it because the Memphis crowd would have given them some serious momentum. Our guys played great, a true veteran team.

Hubb was getting double-teamed a lot when the ball was in his hands. It was pretty evident that Penny was not going to let him beat them. It's just so nice to have Harris and Kugel now to take advantage of the scoring looks when Hubb faces that kind of scrutiny

Nice post. We are very good when we wanna be. I just hope we can bring the Memphis and Pitt effort 4 out of 5 games in the sec.

I didn't realize our portal class was ranked that low. I guess that proves a point about rankings. Great evaluation job by Jans and company.
One thing I liked from yesterday is that it looks like our guys have bought in to Jans's defense. That is a great sign moving forward.

Good stuff SVS

Liked the ball movement we had most of the game. Murph is playing good basketball and tough match-up for alot of 5's

Auburn is going to give us problems because I dont think Murph or Nwoko can handle Broome. Tenn is tough and physical and is also a Top 5 team. But after that- I'm not sure if there is another team that better than us.

One thing nobody mentions- as bad as our football schedule is- basketball's is just as bad.
@Auburn
@Knoxville
@Bama
@OU
@UPig

Right now- the SEC is 104-2 in home games

I've said it all year, but Kugel has the potential to be Dontae Jones for us this year. Yesterday we caught a glimpse of it.

I said to someone yesterday that there is going to be an SEC team go 10-8 in conference play and be a top 4 seed.

Fun game to be at for sure! Dominated from the start.

A lot of sloppy fouls in the first half but got it cleaned up in the second half. The Team can go far if they want to

Florida is pretty dang good too. We haven't matched up well with bama, but maybe we will more this season now that we don't just pound the paint.

There's not a bad team in the SEC this year period. It will be Any Given Night this season. Every game will be tough

I didnt list Fla because we get them at home. I left off @Mississippi/@Georgia/@SC just because I wasnt list the whole road schedule which is Hellllllllll.

Seth Davis tweeted yesterday this year's SEC is the strongest he has ever seen for any conference top to bottom

Good post SVS. I'm excited about this team, yes the SEC is brutal but we won't be a pushover to anyone either. This is our deepest and most talented team since probably the early 2,000's.

NIL has made more players stay longer here in America rather than going overseas to get a bag. It's been a positive impact on the quality of college basketball and the SEC is spending ahead.

Penny Hardaway was pretty complimentary of our team. They have played a tough non conference schedule and he says we are just as good if not better than anybody they've faced.

A couple of things.
1. Yesterday’s win against Memphis was huge. Quad 1 win on the road or neutral court is big.
2. Win yesterday shut up the mouthy Memphis fans. They always think they are better than they actually are. Also might slow down some of that national
praising of Hardaway that is imo a very average coach.
3. Hubbard is and will be a great player for us. His only knock on his game that he seems to be intimidated at times when has someone taller than him
guarding him. But when he is on, he is so special.
4. The SEC is going to be super crazy good from top to bottom. Every team has superior players. Going to be a really fun year of hoops. Just thankful that
we have some players that will allow us to be competitive. And damn good coach! Still blows my mind that Jans first year coached a team that had zero
3pt shooters and still made the tournament. That is dang near impossible.

Our players were telling the Memphis bench that "they are soft"...lol

Anfernee the same as before, got outcoached.

You can say he was outcoached but it was obvious we had the better team.
