Is it just me or have we quietly started putting together a pretty dang good transfer class? I read somewhere a top 5 portal class. I know we aren?t supposed to say anything positive. Especially about Lebby and even more especially about recruiting but how about we just be real about it for a min and admit, this class is gonna help us. Does it make us a 7 won team for next season. Prob not, not with that schedule, but I believe we will look like much better team. I personally think Lebby can get it done. He deserves 3 years no matter what. He inherited an absolute mess. Anyway, off my soap box now. Good transfer class so far!!

As of this moment, we are arguably a worse roster than what we finished with except for LB and S.

We are in desperate need of a Center and 2 more Olinemen. We need an SEC quality corner. We need a RB, another WR, and at least 1 NT and 1-2 more DL that can put their hand in the dirt. We have already missed on numerous visitors and had many others cancel visits. Should have a clearer picture on Monday.

I think we are off to a good start but I'm in wait and see mode just because obviously it's a work in progress.

There are holes but plenty of time to fill them.

The transfer portal for us has been exceptional imo. What we really need are the redshirt and signed players to compete and step up. If they do we will be a good team

It?s a really good class. Unfortunately Arnett and Leach left us with such a bad roster we need a really great class. Hopefully we can close on some more guys in the next couple weeks.

We have the start of an excellent class. We need to close on Josh Moton this weekend to be the corner opposite Kelley Jones. We need probably 2 more DTs. We need a Center and probably one more OL. WR does not worry me in the least bit. We are going to see A BUNCH get in the portal between now and when the recruiting deadline period ends on, I believe, January 3rd. Like I said, it is the START of an excellent class. We have to finish though. We have had a couple of missed, but we have also had some nice hits.

I want to be positive, but it is hard.

I don’t think we’ve got a commitment for a P4 player that was an impact player last year. Do I hope that Manning, Ramill, Glover Hibbler, Jeyvan and Jalen Smith are difference makers? Absolutely. I’m high on Smith.

I just see what TT is doing in the portal and that is what I had hoped we would be doing.

I agree with Hoops, objectively our roster is worse except for LB and Safety. I think we are better at QB, but that’s because of KT.

It is still early, so I’m still hopeful.

Jalen Smith was Freshman All SEC at Tennessee. He will be an instant starter for us. Coleman busted his ass for Smith.

I really like Smith, I think he is our best transfer so far. I just think we need more P4 transfers that were impact guys at their last school at some point in their career.

I posted in the basketball game thread, but offer Jans an absurd deal and put a big part of our NIL in his hands .

According to ON3, our portal class is number #60. 11 in and 25 out. The inbound are rated slightly higher than the outbound though. Our outbound transfers are rated higher than most of those ahead of us. Bama is #68, they only have three transfers in compared with 15 out. Their outbound transfers are rated the highest of all programs.

There is no doubt in my mind that the defense if already much improved.

Yea, but we still don't have an impact DT which is the biggest need on the entire team.

So dumb. Everyone on here is excited that we are signing a good portal class. And news flash, no one wants Lebby to fail. Did you eat lead paint chips as a kid??

How many impact DT's are there out there though? To me that's a guy like Jeffrey Simmons or Chris Jones. The one that are out there are being kept very happy by Ohio State, Alabama, etc.

This is where we have to kind of Moneyball it. Can we get enough production from Bledsoe, Burroughs, McClendon, and maybe Moye and Dinkins (I know) and then maybe one other guy out of the portal in a rotation basis to equal what we would get out of an impact DT? Personally I think so. At least good enough where we can expect to stop the run and apply more pressure on the QB than we did this year to get us into the 90's defensively.

At this time we need to improve enough to get to 6-6 so we can attract even better players.

Impact DT doesn't necessarily mean a future pro. It just means someone who can hold their own in the SEC. There are plenty of those guys in the portal

Exactly, Simmons and Jones are All Pro types. I would just like us to have a couple of DTs that legitimately belong playing in the SEC. To me, that would be an impact DT given what we have.

nothing. nothing wrong with dinkins if we have quality at LB and secondary

I'm glad to have them. But Burroughs hasn't played a snap the last 2 years. And I'm sure you noticed that Bledsoe's team is in the playoffs without him.

getting guys like bledsoe from quality programs is the way a team like state can improve. Hopefully guys like him simply need a chance to get on the field

Yes but we're talking about guys that can hold their own in the SEC to help us get to 6-6 in the short term and I think they can do exactly that.

They're better than Bingley-Jones and Kpaka for sure. And with McClendon being a year older and hopefully a healthy Dinkins rotating in I think we'll be OK.

We need the talent to play a 4-3-4 or a 3-4-4. We ran the 3-3-5 to try and hide our weakness and hold opponents to 5 yards per play instead of 10 yards per play!😳😳

Actually, no team in the country is lining up in a straight 4-3 or a 3-4 a majority of the time. Almost every team is running some form of a nickel as their base defense, whether they use 3 CBs or 3 S.

We are running a branch of the Nick Saban defensive scheme. In this scheme, the SOLB has essentially been replaced in the base defense by the star position, which is a hybrid S/CB/LB who can play on the edge, cover, and run fit.
