I do too. I think they have two things going for them that will really help. One, Dan doesn't have to have a blue chip QB. They can spend money elsewhere and Dan can have a good offense, especially in conference, with a QB that probably nobody else wants to pay. Two, Arnett is good at creating pressure with blitzing, which reduces the important of having disruptic DL. It's obviously a lot easier to find athletic linebackers than it is to find disruptive DL. And you can use tweeners for the LB spot when you have players that are good at getting to the QB but are a little too small for being a traditional down lineman but a little too slow to handle coverage.

As much as Arnett was over his head as a HC, he was one of the best DC we've had recently.

Great post and very professional. This type of commentary is like being at a coach meeting while I coached at Southwestern College in San Diego area. I want to pile on again that people with a lot of money have gathered and have a business plan for Allegiant Stadium to generate money the Las Vegas way. Did UNLV or the casino owners and investers make the hire?

To execute this type of monetary task, money has to be front loaded to generate end game profits. I personally believe that UNLV will have money overtly and covertly combined that will exceed nearly all SEC team NIL budgets soon. Then the NIL party begins and the college football community will be shocked watching all those 4 and 5 stars flying into Las Vegas.

True statement. A lot of our fans hated Arnett and to be honest I wasn't big on him either, it was a rushed hire but Lebby hasn't shown me he is any better yet, heck he may be worse... its too early to tell. I'm hoping he proves me wrong but after seeing what I saw this year I'm not too confident.

The bottom line is when Arnett was left on his own and had even more control to recruit he failed even harder than he ever did with the people that get blamed.

Which is what failures often do. And it's going to make Dan and Arnett even more compelling because both are good at blaming others and pointing fingers while their units perform poorly.

Yeah. That class turned out great.** We were also in the middle of a 9 win season at that time due to Leach.

How about the class after that with multiple de-commitments and guys like Stonka who wouldn't commit because of him?
