Not going to link Football Scoop, but Arnett is leaving Mississippi to become the DC at App State.

Good for him. He's a good DC. He was promoted into a position he never should have and failed miserably but I'm putting that one on Keenum for doing that to someone who never should have sniffed the job

Yeah if it's true that Arnett begged for the job Keenum really should have stepped in and said we're doing a national search like we did when Polk tried to shoe in Raffo as head baseball coach.

He was a below average DC, so I'm not surprised that he has to go back to the G5 level to be a DC again. He's barely a G5 level coach.

Arnett is a good dude who was put in a bad situation and wasn't ready to handle it. If we had had an AD in place (Keenum drug his feet) it wouldn't have happened. Time to move on now and Arnett will be a good DC if he can learn to identify talent better. Maybe a GM type could get that handled for him.

Wow, good for him. That is as nice of an area to live anywhere in the Southeast. They will not want to leave.

Carried us to that Egg Bowl win in 2022 in spite of Leach's outdated offense and Will's ineffectiveness. That was a great night in Oxford.

Dan Mullen say hold my beer...actively trying to work a deal with Arnett as UNLV DC

Well a hurricane just washed most of that area away.

Dan?s tenure at UNLV is starting bad if he is hiring Arnett.

Nah, Boone only had minor flooding. Blowing Rock next door had nothing sitting at 4000+ ft atop the mountains.

That area is an awesome area, one of my favorite in the eastern US. If you never been, you don't know what you've missed.

I agree with this 100% - he had to take the job or he wouldn't have a job

You would bring a lot more valuable content to this board if uou could look at things objectively and not put so much bias on your hot takes

That would be a heck of a combo - dan can find talent and I feel like arnette is man enough that Dan wouldn't throw him under the bus.

I do look at things objectively. Objectively, Zach Arnett is not a good coach. Period. Part of his responsibilities as a defensive coordinator is to recruit talent and develop the talent he recruits. He did neither. His recruiting was terrible, and the few players that actually had some ability that he recruited didn't develop. His scheme couldn't generate pressure without blitzing multiple defenders, leaving his coverage units hanging out to dry. He literally inherited Forbes, Emerson, Jett, Bookie, Pickering, Crumedy, Cam Young, and DeCam, and he didn't develop anyone behind them.

Some of yall forget about the recruiting coordinator Leach brought in that kept screwing things up for the rest of the staff. Arnette never got the chance to recruit out from under him or have a class of his own. He held the 23 class together without even knowing whether he had a job going forward. I get not liking how he handled some things in the 23 season but he was put in a bad position. He will be a good DC abd he will be back in this league coaching soon.

Newsflash: Arnett was on Leach's staff that you claim recruited so poorly. Meaning he was just as complicit because he had full reign over defensive recruiting.

We hired Arnett just a few days after Leach passed. It wasn't long thereafter. So it's not like he was in limbo for a month or something.

This might be Dan's way of keeping our looney fans from begging him to come back.

Sort of like when y'all's ex girlfriends that dumped you dates the asshole guy you hate so y'all will stop calling her begging for her to give you a second chance.

I never claimed leachs staff recruited poorly man - you are confusing me with someone else. And you do know that Arnett did not have full reign over his recruiting right?

That's the point you are missing- he didnt have full reign on who to recruit. Leach did not give him that power. Leach's recruiting coordinator decided who we were recruiting

The one that has been gone since 2021 while Arnett was still around for 2022 and 2023?

All I know is that Mullen/Arnett is superior to Lebby/Hutzler and its not close.

At least based on what they have done on the field.

It is not really close.

I figure Mullen and Arnett will compete annually with Boise for the best in the conference and if the NIL$ gets right, they'll take the conference over. No telling where they end up in 10 years.
