I guess we are going to run it back with Hutzler which most of us thought. We were holding out on a little hope but NSD is over and the weekend is over. He better hit this Transfer Portal out of the park.

We'll see. You still had a few teams playing over the weekend so the coaching carousel madness truly begins in earnest today. You have to see what is out there. You can't make a move just to make one to appease message boards.

I could live with Hutz back but DT should at best, be cleaning the stadium.

How can anyone be ok with this? 2025 is over before it even starts if we go this direction.

We were essentially the worst statistical defense in the country. In the SEC, in nearly all categories, there was less separation between the top ranked defense and the 15th ranked defense than between the 15th ranked defense and us. Making changes on our defensive staff should have nothing to do with anything on a message board. What makes things worse is the current defensive staff is not even recruiting very well. Even if you throw the majority of the problem on talent ratther than coaching this staff doesn't seem to really be fixing that issue to any great degree especially relatve to the DL. So I'm not sure where any MSU fan is suppose to draw hope from that defensively anything will get better any time soon?

I will agree with you more if we do not nab starters for the DL from the portal

I'm not holding my breath on the guy that transferred from UMiami that was originally at Bama. Seems like a loose cannon.

That's why we're literally giving him a chance to try out. This isn't a transfer portal pickup. This is basically like inviting a non drafted guy to training camp with hopes of getting a roster spot. There are ZERO NIL dollars in this one.

Check the offer sheets of the JC DL from signing day. Very concerning as our evaluations much be must different than the vast majority of the SEC. Also very concerned regarding Lebby's remarks on signing day "That we now had some big guys for the scout team for us to practice against". Wow, how about some guys to perform/succeed in the trenches on "D" in 2025?
Really Clark?

Because he knew that the more impact guys where going to have to come through the portal.

Hope we hit some SEC talent in the portal then.

Bottom line is we need SEC caliber players. Stop. End of discussion! We don’t get them I’m very afraid 2025 will mirror 2024. Don’t care who the coach is if you don’t have the horses to run the race you are not going to win very often.

Well bad horses and a jockey who had never ridden in a race before 2024 was a recipe for disaster, but our AD now has 2 years of SEC "on the job training" and our HC & DC one each. 2025 will tell the tale as our #2 ranked schedule in the nation in '24 just flips home and home SEC in '25.

Exactly. Talent trumps coaching always. Regardless of how emotionally invested you are.

Talent is the biggest factor but don't relegate coaching to being unimportant. See Peter Sirmon in 2016. But at least Mullen had the smarts to realize he made a mistake and we moved on. At this point I've just decided Lebby is more worried about his friend keeping his job than winning. Hutzler was a really bad hire from the start. It never made sense.
