Not sure how NIL wouldn't be a deduction. It actually should be a Marketing expense since the player should be doing something to earn it. That was the actual point of it.
Just buying players is still technically illegal.

The point of it was never really NIL for marketing for the players to make money. That went out the window 15 minutes after it was introduced and schools started just paying players. The NCAA and courts have done nothing to stopped what everyone knew "NIL" was really. Legal Pay for play.

That is some serious BS! I DO NOT advocate doing this but it is just about the only way teams like ours can compete with Georgia, Bama, Texas, Ohio State, etc. To afford top shelf coaches and true SEC level players.
