You get these 2 new LBs?.
Aren?t we a stud DT and a couple of avg DTs. And a stud CB and a couple of avg CBS
Away from a solid D?

I mean maybe but we still have a terrible defensive staff and DC. I'm still in shock we haven't fired Hutzler.

I don?t see how anyone can say we are a couple of pieces away from being solid on defense.

I dont know.
That?s is how I see it.
Get 1 high level player at each level of D then fill in.
Not saying we will be the 85 Bears, just solid.

Honestly we don't even need solid.
If we could get away from historically bad, we could have won a few more ball games.
We gave up over 2600 rushing yards this year. Next closest in conference was at 1800. Gave up almost 5500 yards of offense. Next closest in conference was at 4700. We gave up 34 points per game. Next closest was 25.
We don't need solid. We need 12th or 13th in conference and we will be a bowl team next year.

It's kind of like saying if we get one of the qb transfers we're taking about, getting a stud LT, a stud wr, and then a couple average lineman we will be solid on offense.
The problem is getting a couple "stud" players. We need to land one first. It would be even better if it was at a significant position.
However with all these needs and the fact that we need two big time players at key positions just shows how much in the hole we are. On the other side of that is who couldn't use a big time player in those positions

We have had these players before and will again.
I am not in the camp that all is doom and gloom.
I?m not asking much.
How much do good DLs go for? $500k? Great, overpay one for $750k. Someone will come.

As far as next year I would ask Stonka if he wants to play both like Travis Hunter at Colorado and see what he says.
Of course if he is open to playing one or the other I would go with that.
We have Isaac Smith and the one JUCO I like from EMCC that is a bounce back from Alabama. I say go with those two and roll with it.

Add a legitimate edge rusher and I agree

I like Stonka, Isaac, and Kelly Jones at safety but we would need 2 corners out of the portal.

Doubtful, he and those around him think he is the next AJ Brown but he?s not.

How high is his potential at WR? The only times I saw him he had alligator arms.

You could see it in high school that he?s a safety and a next level one at that.

I wish he would...when I look at an NFL roster, the largest position group is the DB's ....if his goal is to be an NFL player, I would say that's the fastest path

He should have been told during the year if he wanted all his nil money he was playing safety?.. he isn?t a wr.
