South Carolina at Clemson - with the mass losses yesterday, the winner of this game could punch their ticket to the playoffs next week.
Texas at aTm - Texas is probably in regardless now, but can aTm sneak in with a win? I used to watch these two play every game, and I can't wait to see this rivalry reborn.

Anyone know the tie breaker if aTm and Tenn win?
Georgia, Texas, aTm, and Tenn would all be 6-2

Tennessee is now in the playoffs now barring they don't lose to Vanderbilt.

Conference championship games are a sham. Complete money grab. I don't need to see UGA and Texas again and possibly again in the playoffs.

That game is for a bye, so I like it. Would you rather have a week with no games?

If tenn and AM win, AM gets nod with victory over common opponent arky. I could be wrong, but I believe GA is a lock for sec champ. Winner or Tex and Tex AM goes.
What would be interesting is if AM wins, then loses to GA, would the committee take a 4 loss sec runner up.

No, I'd rather the first round of the playoffs be in the first week of December, and for the national championship game to be played on New Year's Day.

I disagree. Acc and big 12 championship games are for a playoff spot. Big 10 and sec are for a bye. There's a lot at stake that weekend.

Do we need it though? SMU will finish alone at 8-0 in the ACC assuming they beat Cal next week. The Big 12 may work itself out too.
In some situations, it can be good to have a CCG to sort things out, but it's often dull and repetitive. Like in the above example, why are Georgia and Texas going to play for a second time, and then a third time later on? Just expand the playoffs instead to give exciting and meaningful games that week.

24 team bracket:
7 SEC - Georgia, Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Alabama, Ole Miss
4 Big 10 - Oregon, Ohio State, Penn State, Indiana
3 ACC - Miami, SMU, Clemson
3 Big 12 - whoever comes out on top of the standings
1 Notre Dame
5 G5 champions
That still leaves 1 more bid for someone, maybe Missouri or another G5 team.

I would rather have a 16 team playoff and that be round 1.
It's not really a bye if you have to play that game. Also, I would rather have a home game than a bye anyway.

Not sure about CFB bye winning %, but byes are a huge advantage in NFL
ETA... I'm thinking about this incorrectly bc they won't be playing consecutively up to the playoffs. Regardless, I like championship Saturday, and I wanna keep some of the traditions of CFB

You don't need a conference championship game to give out byes though. Just rank the teams at the end of November and give the top 4 byes. It's kinda stupid that a Big 12 team is going to end up with a bye anyway.

They most likely aren't... it'll be Boise state most likely

You basically just posted that everything i said is correct. Eventually, there will be an outcry against conference championship games once people catch on.

Not really. Having no bye requires winning 4. Having a bye requires winning 3. The bye is still a big advantage, and with no reseeding, you can start preparing for the next opponent.

If you have to play a conference championship, you don't have a bye.
I could see a 12-0 UGA vs a 12-0 Bama where both teams just rest their starters.
Also, the coolest thing in CFB now is a home, on campus playoff game. Teams with a bye don't get that.
It should be a 16 team playoff. No byes. All on campus games until at least the semis, maybe just the championship.

Championship games: Dec 6-7
First round of playoffs: Dec 20-21
Second round of playoffs: Dec 31- Jan 1
Not sure what you're talking about. If Georgia wins the sec championship, they don't play again till 24-25 days

If it was a 16 team playoff, they would have to start earlier. Just think a little before posting.

You said, "if you play in a champsionship game, you don't get a bye". That's wrong. The winner gets a considerable layoff... well, the acc, big 10, and sec will. While a home playoff game is really cool, if the point is to win a natty, give me the bye.
And I guess we will put your resting starters theory to the test in the big 10 - #1 oregon vs #2 Ohio state. Absolutely no way that will happen, and it shouldn't... the winner has a huge advantage in winning a championship.
