Are we capable of having a decent NIL package?

The reason I ask is, we have 150,000 living alumni. One donor gave $8mm earlier this year. That is the same as 8,000 alums giving $1,000 each. Breaking down the alums to the top 1%, top 10%, top 25% and others would seem we could do much better than we are.

Rumor is Michigan is paying LSU Qb commit $10 million. LSU doesn't have close to that number. LSU fans up in an outcry bout Kelly. Crazy!!!

Yeah we will never do that, but seems plausible to get much better than current situation.

Problem is, we could have a top 25 NIL fund but the 15th in SEC. It is all relative to your schedule. Have to pick and choose the players and the years where you want to go all-in and be smart about it.

This wave of college coaches will be way more prepared for an NFL gig than in the past.

That’s a really good point. Almost would be better to recruit coaches out of the NFL rather than college these days

True, but I bet it would be something like 1 and 2 then big gap; 3 to 5 then medium gap; 6 to 16 all within the same relative range. We have to do what we have always done to be successful, recruit HARD in state and spend our time and money here to keep those kids from going out of state then pay a lot for QB and other key positions of need. I really think we can be more competitive than ever before in the NIL era, it works well for a school like us.

I agree 100%.

Short term we have to rebuild through the portal and start to have some success and show some hope. Then we can build around high school guys for the most part and use the portal to fill in gaps.

The only issue with the focus on in state recruiting is the fact that the recruiting cycles from 2020-2023 has produced very few, if any, impact players from Mississippi. Our Mississippi recruits and Ole Miss's as well have largely not panned out. Maybe that turns around with the 2024 class onward, but I feel like we would be better off focusing on the top few from Mississippi and then putting a lot more efforts into Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Alabama, Louisiana, and Texas.

As much as I would love for us to have great football success, that didn’t happen before NIL and it’s going to be even more difficult with NIL. Football pays the bills so we can’t give up on it, but basketball is the sport we can excel in with NIL. We need to do everything we can to keep Jans because hoops is the sport we have the potential to be a top 10 program year in and year out for the next 10 years or so if we can keep Jans. It is just not realistic for us to do that in football in this conference. I would bet our NIL is 15/16 in the SEC.

Decent, absolutely. Sufficient, no.
