Read an article about them offering top recruit Bryce Underwood 10.5 million over 4 years to come play for them. He's currently committed to LSU. What are States chances?***

Well they have Portnoy out there personally offering 3.5 million to get Michigan a QB so that's where that number is coming from. I think it's probably 3.5 for 3 years in actuality.
We really need a new wave of boosters to start to break through and get some of these older boosters out.

The only thing that actually pisses me off about this year is the fact that our roster is costing way more in NIL money than our fans would believe.
We committed significant money to land the transfer OL that are on the roster. Same for the WR corps. Shapen got paid. Coleman has panned out, but several others were just plain missed evaluations and money thrown away.
We also spent on defense. I know it sounds unbelievable, but we have spent real NIL dollars to field the defense we have on the field.
That is the biggest problem we have right now. We have several donors who have given to the BI and they are being asked for more, and they have asked "Where did my money go?" and they are being told it is on the roster we have currently and good luck getting another dollar from that donor.
When you pay good money to field a roster, and you end up going 2-10 or 3-9, people aren't signing up to give more money.
Bear fans are happy to keep funding the tree collective because they are seeing results. We funded a roster that is going 2-10 or maybe 3-9. I just don't see how you can convince fans that you are going to spend their money wisely, especially when we are losing kids from our backyard to the bears.

We had to get what we could this year. Were there missed evaluations? AbsoDAMNlutely there were. I mean if they are going to stop donating because we had a bad portal haul with a coach that got here basically in December then they're not real fans or real supporters of the program. It's ok to be pissed, but you also can't just throw your hands up and say I'm done when you have a bad season. You have to double down and make sure it doesn't happen again.

I hear ya, but I gave to BI and I'm going to give again, but I'll be honest how much is our money going to go next year? We are hoping for 6-6 right? How much will it cost to get to 6-6? Look at the schedule - lets assume we win our 4 non-conf games.

I mean holy shit. That is a schedule from hell.
How much will it cost to get to 6-6? We have to let Shapen go, we need his money off the books. We need his money to get an edge rusher that is willing to come here. Also, we haven't talked about the elephant in the room when it comes to portal guys.
The elephant in the room is that there are two types of portal guys - pure money guys and money guys that want to win. We will struggle to land guys in the second group, and usually those are the ones that we want to get, because the money guys aren't going to put it on the line for you. They just want the money. I've heard several coaches complain about the money guys, because they have no loyalty, they are the last ones in and the first ones out. You don't want those guys, even if they are more talented than the guys you have on the roster.
If we can't show proof of concept like Indiana or Vandy, we aren't going to sniff the talented portal guys that want to win. Also, the portal won't be near the bonanza some think it will be because more and more teams have money to retain guys that are the type of player we want to improve our roster. Kids like Craver, Isaac Smith, MVB and a few others on our team that have shown SEC level talent won't be leaving our program without a tremendous fight. That wasn't the case a few years ago.

So just looking at the schedule. I think with an improved defense, you beat Arkansas and you can beat A&M. Tennessee loses a lot on that defense and Iamaleava doesn't exactly look like hell on wheels in that offense. Mizzou will be down. You can get to 6 or even 7 IF YOU PORTAL CORRECTLY. We have the money to do that, we just need to execute.

I hope you are right, but I would think we will be double digit underdogs in every SEC game on the schedule except maybe Mizzou, who will be favored.
I just don't know how much the portal will actually help teams like us this year. We will have to overpay to land kids, and we can't just throw money away like we did this year.

Well and that's where having a dedicated scouting dept and continuity comes into play. I mean we're on our 3rd staff in 3 years with 3 VERY DIFFERENT philosophies on both sides of the ball. So it's not hard to see why the portal wasn't exactly our friend.

Yeah…let’s push out the older boosters and lose that money. Some of you guys have lost your mind.
