Hayes Holton. If you haven?t heard of him, look him up. He is from down the road from where I live and when I tell you he?s the one of the best high school baseball players I?ve ever seen, I?m not embellishing in the least. He is the real deal.

We beat out LSU, Texas A&M and Texas for him. Holton is legit and obviously is a Friday night talent.

Lemonis may have some issue but high school recruiting is not one of them. He is killing it there to the point where we may not have to use the portal a whole lot.

Get them to campus. I understand we will always lose some to the draft.

Commitment doesn't do him any good if they don't make it to campus.

We get more to campus than we lose. You have to recruit the draft risk guys to have any chance of getting them to campus.

They can't all go in the draft.

Correct.People just don't understand this. And you can't get them to campus if you don't sign them. Also, if you never lose anyone to the draft, you are recruiting the wrong guys.

For those of us that don't know you, where abouts is "down the road from where you live?"

Just asking . . . . .

Yes. And the class we signed today is top 5. But we have a small class that is bringing the rating down some but the overall rating on average is also number 2.

Really the only question is how many will we get through the draft- which will also influence what we need out of the portal.

Also- we don't have any JUCO commits or signees in the 2025 or 2026 class. How we use the JUCO system is going to change. I think those are going to come from guys that stand out during their JUCO season and sign during the spring. It appears we may be taking fewer of those going forward though.

We really need to try to land Kevin Roberts, Jr. from Jackson Prep by way of West Lauderdale for the 2026 class. Yes, he is probably going pro but we do have an in with him as far as getting him to commit.

What is exciting is if we can get Landon Harmon and Hayes Holten to campus we will absolutely have a good enough rotation to potentially get to Omaha and win it. We also have the best dual position player in 2026 committed in Quincy Bright but it's going to be very difficult to get him to school.

Maddox Miller and Tanner Beliveau are also really good players too. Miller's Dad used to pitch at Delta State and also in MLB for the Indians. Guys like that usually know how to pitch. Beliveau I'm not sure if he is going to be a pitcher or a position player yet. Richie Swain is a good pick up as well. One of the best players in Missouri and then we landed Jack Bigham who was one of the best pitchers in Kentucky.

And we talked about how big of a pick up Peter Mershon is. He's probably an OF for us but I could see him maybe playing third base. Trent Grindlinger is a really good catcher prospect- up there with the Ed Easley, Logan Tanner, and Ross Highfill's in terms of ceiling. All in all for the 2025 class we signed five high school players in the top 50- Harmon, Grindlinger, the Parker brothers, and Mershon. And next year we have at least 2-3 off the top of my head that should be rated that high in the 2026 class committed so far. Only one of them I would consider a slam dunk draft risk and that's Bright in the 2026 class.

I think the portal makes it much easier to recoup players lost to the draft. So in many ways we really have nothing to lose by taking their commitments.

Lose Dante Nori- get Ace Reese.

The '25 class is rated #2, if i'm not mistaken. The '26 class, which Holton is a part of looks pretty strong early. The pitcher from florida that is rated so high is in the '26 class, isn't he?

Not anymore. Only 20 rounds nowadays.

Correct. The fact that the number of rounds has been decreased drastically, changes the odds of who might go or stay.

Exactly. I would think that the days are gone where you lose someone you really need past round 10. Who wants to take a big paycut to go play in the minors?

yeah the draft has turned into Top 10 round vs 11-20. If someone is selected in the Top 10 round- its almost a certainty they will sign. It's not 100% but it's pretty close. So we are seeing top flight guys have their asking price and if MLB teams arent feeling it- they drop out of the Top 10 rounds.
