Hiring a head coach in the SEC without any SEC experience is a risky move. I just don't think they can understand that you have to be prepared every week when you play an SEC opponent. Brian Kelly is also struggling with that.

Matt3467

Vandy is doing what a team with a horrible defense needs to be doing and thats controlling the time of possession. We stayed in the TX game not because our defense was making big plays (TX gained 520 yards on us). It was because we controlled the ball. Whatever we need to do to keep our defense off the field we need to do it.

This gives me more hope about Lebby and Selmon revitalizing the program.

NIL was a problem for us. I think recent lack of stability was a bigger one. We would probably be talking a different talk if Leach were still alive. That being said, we’ll probably be better off long term with Lebby getting here now vs. later. Not saying I’m glad Leach is gone by any means.

It's just a matter of time. And it's not surprised that we were behind in NIL given our general football culture where we deemphasized recruiting across multiple staffs.

Kaelen DeBoer is NOT Nick Saban.

And I'll say this- I think NIL and portal may have actually leveled the playing field in the SEC to a degree.

How many times during the Dan Mullen era did we have a pretty good team but we had like one unit that was really really bad and the Alabama's and LSU's would just target that position group and kill it? If we had the portal and NIL we could have filled those gaps better.

It?s annoying our fans act like NIL is going to kill state. It?s going to kill small programs. Were going to lose some to even bigger fish, but mostly were going to be the one doing the poaching and be fine if we play the game and stop acting like losers. Thank god for Charlie and Selmon

Yeah and the we ain't got the talent BS. Talent is only maybe 1/3 of the formula. NIL helps with that but if you spend NIL on the wrong players, it don't matter.

Anyone think Vandy has more talent or NIL than Bama?

MSU can compete and we will after NIL and portal once we get the right players and coaches. Yep talent, coaching, and attitude (culture) are the winning formula. NIL can actually hurt attitude and culture if it is not managed right.

You still have to have a good core of high school players that have come up in the program to succeed IMO. I don't think anyone is going to portal and NIL a National Championship where more the majority of the players came from other programs.

Number 13 for Alabama kicking the ball at the end of the game tells me that Alabama is going to miss Saban. There is no way in hell he loses that game and if he did 13 would be walking back to Tuscaloosa if he behaved like that.

Truth Tusk. Bama left no stone unturned and if the other stuff wasn't getting it done, work the ref angle. Happened all the time. 17 State wins without ref hep, not to mention many others by other teams. The Saban effect is more than X&Os and "the process".

There were too many plays where Bama got favorable calls. Negating TD's due to holdings, etc. You can't name 5 times Bama was called for targeting in an the years of the rule. You could also notice whenever Bama played outside of the SEC officiating they had higher than normal penalties against them.

Oh no - '92 was not fair. Not one bit. And that game was not 14-7, it was Bama 30-21. We took at 3rd quarter lead 21-20 after being down 20-3 in the first half. After getting the lead, we made some mistakes that cost the game - but in typical Bama Ref fashion the OL was allowed to do everything short of murder to help get the lead back. I still need a bourbon when I think about that lost opportunity.

I think you are thinking of '91 in T-Town where we lost 13-7.

Nope it was the year they won it all. Ir might have been 14-7 at half. Was pissing in the trough at halftime and all the Bama fans were talking like they were about to get beat. The worst called game was when I think Relf was the QB and we scored 2 TDs that should've put us up 14 in the 1st QTR but were called back because of penalties, that no one saw or even noticed, and then they proceeded to beat the crap out of us, maybe 2009.

Yes, the Gumps were happy to get out with a win. I actually went to a party in Tuscaloosa the following January that turned out to be a football team party. Talked to several players who said that the MSU game was the toughest
game by far that season including the SEC against Florida and the Sugar against Miami.
