Any other big surprises?

I'm not sure how big of a surprise that should have been. MRA just killed Oak Grove a week ago.

MAIS has surpassed MHSAA in football. At least the Jackson Country Club Four schools have anyway.

Those teams lost to them last year. OG and WJ aren't nearly as strong this year and they don't have the freedom to openly recruit. It's simply a down year for them and an up year for the others.

While I agree that there is recruiting in private school, it?s also happening in public schools now as well. Also, recruiting is legal in most every other state at the high school level so it isnt a bad thing.

Saying that, 95 percent of the kids on Jackson prep have been there since they could enroll in the 7th grade. They don?t have 4 stars with SEC offers. However, if their qb was 2-3 inches taller he?d have some really good offers, and should have them now tbh

They were number 4 in the state, 19 game win streak and 6 of those wins were this year, down year? Possibly biggest OL in the state. I think you are simply wrong on this one.
I wouldn’t go as far as some to say private has surpassed MHSAA but the gap is certainly closed.

I think there are Private Schools in the Delta that could beat Public Schools in the Delta. I think every Metro private school except maybe Clinton Christian and Park Place Christian could beat every JPS public school.

It's not nearly what the private schools are doing. Not remotely close.

OG isn't good. It's the worst I've seen them in years talent wise and performance wise. WJ lost a ton from last year. No different than MRA/Prep last year really. I'm not saying MRA and Prep aren't good this year, but academy ball hasn't taken some big jump since last year and certainly not if they aren't recruiting big, someone acting like recruiting isn't big is fooling themselves. Prep has so many advantages they should always be good. MRA and Hartfield too.
It's an arms race around there and they get a lot of help.

The metro private schools are recruiting like never before. With folks that dont work for the school. Street agents

Hartfield is following the Hugh Freeze and Briarcrest Christian model I'm sure.

Prep has 36 seniors this year. The right tackle is headed to Baylor and the left tackle is headed to Duke. They have a wr/db/pr headed to Air Force. All of that to say they are very good this year. Will be good next year but will probably take a step or two back. West Jones had a couple of good running backs but their secondary is trash. Prep receivers were behind them all night. I think their starting QB was out as well but not sure.

My understanding is Oak Grove is starting a sophomore at QB so I'm sure there are some growing pains.

Hartfield is losing a lot after this year as well. Their money man, who brought in their talent, got pissed off and now his son is at MRA. There's not much in the cupboard on their junior high team to look forward to. My understanding is they are rethinking the aggressiveness with which they bring in kids. Apparently there have been some behavior issues with some of the kids and/or parents. I do know they have 16 kids on this year's roster that weren't on last year's varsity or 9th grade team. Make of that what you will.

JA just hired a brand new coaching staff. Most of which has a college coaching background. They are not quite at the level of the other 3 yet but to borrow Hartfield's phrase, I hear they are all in.

I wish they would start recruiting cheerleaders.

That was a crazy thing. He pumped all that money into Hartfield's athletic programs solely to beat MRA and then he leaves to go back. I mean Hartfield will be fine. They have all the Pinelake money that will never dry up, but Heath was giving them a ton and basically built the last 3-4 teams there.

It's our first loss(West Jones),in 2 years, beat Prep last year and lost a ton from last years team, inexperienced secondary contributed to the loss and our passing game isn't what it was last year. Reynolds is doing a great job here though!

Hartfield yes. They have a DL committed to Bama and another DL committed to Arkansas. They also have the top player on the state in 2026 class.

Prep and mra not as much.

JA is fixing to try to ramp it up. They will be a force shortly I think.

JA has just gotten passed by as of now. MRA became a rocket ship under Hubert and it helped that JA and Prep were wandering in coaching wasteland for about 4 years. Hubert has just figured out the offense for them and he's gotten enough help with transfers to go with his array of skill guys that have been at MRA since 1st grade to really have it rolling there. Really really impressive what he's been able to do. MRA was always the basketball school that had good athletes playing football. Now they have legit football players to go along with the athletes.

Herbert and Weaver do a great job with that MRA offense. They scrapped everything in about 2016-2017 and went out to meet with Briles and Lebby for three days at Baylor and essentially copied what they do, even down to the terminology. It has evolved a little, but very much still the same as Lebby today. He went and visited with Lebby this summer and the terminology is still the same.
