View Full Version : What I see Texas game

QB- Van Buren was solid for a freshman. The gameplan made sense where it was ultra conservative and it didn't put too much on his shoulders. It seemed like as the game went on they kind of let him do more. I think as the year goes on we'll kind of let him do his thing and see a little bit more passing and things like that. Not sure I like putting Parson in but I get it- he gives Van Buren a time to take a break. But if we keep using him he needs to throw the ball some.

RB- Johnnie Daniels needs to start and be the guy. Not sure of Lee's status but when Lee is healthy both of them are better than Booth.

WR- They were fine on a day where we didn't pass a ton. Hopefully we'll see more once Van Buren gets more and more comfortable. WR is the deepest group on our team and we need to find ways to get them the ball.

TE- Traore kind of looks like a wild deer out there. He has to catch the ball better but is solid. Ball might be our best TE.

OL- I thought they were a little bit better but still not good. Pounders is a major liability and it's surprising because he was so good at Memphis. Not sure that we have an answer there. Maybe move him to guard in the offseason?

DL- Is what it is. But also they were better. Getting Dinkins back will help some if he is healthy. He and McClendon are our best guys.

LB- Stone Blanton will not be getting invited to the Manning Show anytime soon. LOL. Making Nic Mitchell the starter at EDGE/Jack seemed to help.

CB- Kind of thin without Jones there. Pollack is OK.

S/Nickle- Thin here without Isaac Smith. Ellington is OK. Lanier shows up at times.

K/P- Ferrie made his kicks and Barr-Mara was mostly good. He had a bad punt but still got it inside the 20. We blocked a punt and it allowed us to get some points. Again pretty solid overall day for ST.

I'm going to disagree on our WR a bit.
They need to make catches. We had two game changing deep balls dropped that were catchable. Not easy, but catchable. Craver whiffed and Mosely just dropped it. We HAVE to make those. Kiddos to to Craver for making one later in the game. I do love that we are taking shots for the first time in a decade - even with a true freshman on the field

Disagree on WR, they dropped a wide open TD and another pass for a 40 yard gain. Thats okay this year since we aren?t going anywhere but unacceptable moving forward. Gotta catch the ball

WR didn't have a great day but just OK

Daniels is our RB, he just balls out. Like his moxey.

OL did OK on run blocking, liability on pass.

VB is going to be a good one. Need to hang on to him.

DL we just have some underperforming guys in spots. They played OK in spots. We must mix up our fronts, blitzes, etc. I still think Travion has all the tools. He is just too light to play in the middle.

WRs made some catches but also dropped a few that would?ve made the game very interesting. In fairness, Texas WRs also dropped some passes that would?ve put game way out of reach.

I want to know if Traore gets ripped apart in the film room. Every week that dude misses key blocks. By missing I mean literally won?t touch anybody

Daniels easily has to start. Booth?s vision just looks terrible to me. Only angle I had was the tv angle but one play to the left it looked wide open to the outside and Booth cuts inside for maybe 1 yard. It looked awful on tv to me. Seemed like green grass everywhere outside.

I'd be willing to bet they held out some on calls

We need to keep running the ball. Be a run spread offense. That's what we can do and move the ball.

We adjusted the offense to protect the QB and shorten the game. RBs were better, OL sucks, DL is DOA, missed our best defensive player, WR cost us two or three scores with drops.
Team seems to be coming together more (as much as it can) and it's a good time to beat off.

Yeah I think it’s a great time for the bye. Got a good film to look at and see who produced, which should lead to more playing time. Also, got to see Van B in meaningful action (against a very good defense) and now 2 weeks to improve on what he feels comfortable doing in this offense.

Exactly. He gets two weeks to work on his game and while we will probably see a similar game plan against Georgia- slow tempo, probably more run heavy than typical for this offense and maybe opening it up sooner- after that I think the offense will kind of start to open up a bit.
