The UNLV starting QB announced today he is deciding to stop playing and redshirt the rest of the year. UNLV is 3-0 and a favorite to make the playoff should they handle business.

He alluded to agreements not being met as why he will no longer play.

But I'm supposed to care about college football like I used to huh? No ****ing way

I'm with you but apparently he was only paid 3k out of 100k promised.

Sport is a complete mess right now though.

That's the thing though, he ain't sniffing the NFL. He's trying to leverage his last year of eligibility into the biggest pay day he can. Seems pretty desperate overall. Make a couple hundred grand next year (maybe) and then what? Hit the books kid.

I mean, I don't necessarily fault him. If someone offered you $100,000 for a job and then had only paid you $3,000, it would be crazy to stick around.

Not saying I like this whole NIL situation, just saying I can understand why he dipped.

Same. I don?t fault him, because a deal is a deal. I also have no cares for college football anymore.

It's ok to hate the game, but still try to win.

are you serious right now? what do you think would happen in the NFL if a player only got 3% of their paycheck? they'd suit up for the love of the game and play for free? yall gotta get real, this isn't the CFB of your childhood.

If what he's saying is true, I really don't see an issue. If my employer quit paying me, the employee who makes the company go, what it agreed to pay me, i would stop working for them.

Hope he knows who his "agent" made the deal with and also the stipulations of the contracts otherwise he might be getting a visit from a Joe Pecsi character

Bull. He would be playing for someone else THIS weekend, if the rules allowed. He's probably got a deal already lined up for next season.

Well, the problem here is this is all hinging on a supposed *verbal* offer made by the OC. Who knows what the truth is. Yes NIL sucks.

Really Clark?

This why contracts, firm transfer and tampering regulations were needed 3 years ago.

Yeah, I think I heard USC (Lincoln Riley). After his three game performance USC wants to pony up more bread than UNLV.

Exactly, they screwed him but somehow it's fault. He's a running QB, he's not going to the NFL and he now retains one more year to try and make some money before his career is over. Those are the rules and he's playing by them. I don't fault him.

One of their RBs just announced he was doing the same thing. Not a great look for UNLV right now. Makes it look like their making promises they can't keep

Do not fault the kid! As others have said the sword cuts both ways, pay to play or no pay (a little pay) no play. This is another reason I can not stand NIL nobody knows what the pay or what was guaranteed.

This is more the fault of the ridiculous "you can play 4 games but still redshirt and transfer" rule. I'm sure we all remember D'Eriq King doing the same back in 2019 before NIL was a thing.

It's time to abolish redshirting altogether and just give players 5 years to play.

We need more of this. The more players that do this, the faster some rules and regulations get put in place.

And there lies the root of the problem. For those of us against NIL, we prefer college athletes to be amateurs, not pros like they are today. This is why we are in the terrible mess we are in today.

That?s fine and I agree with you, but times change and this is how it is now. My reply is based on the what is, not what was

Now UNLVs running back has quit. This is the first time they have been ranked and now their season is wrecked. Pathetic “kids”

He is not an NFL type. He has to make his money now or do without. He had someone promise him $$$ and then they didn't pay him.

No contract? That is what is screwing him.

So, why no contrat? You can't base NIL on performance so verbally he was promised 100,000 if he was named starting QB. Then they failed to pay him. All he got was the stipend that every athlete gets of $3,000 at UNLV.

I do not blame him, he has one year left to set himself up for life and UNLV messed him over. He has only been there 3 months.

I don't blame this kid one bit, what would you do if your job stop paying you. This is his livelyhood, like it or not.

Solution is make them employees, pay any medical bills they have as a result of playing football and sign contracts. This is the solution, colleges have been paying athletes since I have been alive.

You can not like college sports now but colleges have been taking advantage of players forever. In the NFL, coaches make less than the players. The players are the ones out there getting injured for life and all. Anythinf over 500,000 for a coach is shit anyway. It's rare one is worth more. It's the players that actually can run fast and shit.

I don't have any problem with paying players, I just wish we had fewer transfer opportunities. Sign here, you can't go to another team without sitting out a year unless we agree kind of thing.
