Cycle talk about State and Ole Miss is nonsense

I can?t stand hearing the State talking heads talk about how we are just in a down cycle and Ole Miss is in an up cycle.

They have outperformed us across the board. Period.

First step is addressing the problem. Not chalking it up to cycles.

If you look at schools similar to MSU- Arkansas, Ole Miss, Kentucky, South Carolina, Mizzou, etc. they have all had years like we are going to have this year recently- meaning 2013 to now. All schools including MSU have also had 10 plus win seasons in that span as well.

That said, the root cause of our issues is poor management and massive coaching turnover. Other schools have other reasons- Ole Miss and probation around 2016 or so.

They're probably floating that narrative because a lot of people think Kiffin is going to leave and even if he doesn't they have a massive amount of seniors on their team which is going to result in a massive portal rebuild in the offseason.

Yes they are. NIL is one piece of the puzzle and not our biggest issue IMO. Our biggest issue is making insanely stupid decisions like hiring Zach Arnett and allowing him to replace the offensive staff for the boosters friends. For years going back to at least Dan we have had the strategy of hiring an offensive guru to try to outscheme opponents instead of focusing on recruiting and talent acquisition. It has actually worked for us for years honestly- we had a 13 year bowl streak and several 8 win seasons or more. It sounds to me like we are finally starting to focus more on recruiting and identifying talent which is exactly what we need to do. There are also multiple PR problems that our AD has to address that are very controllable from LED lights, to uniforms, to promoting the team. I think those things are going to be addressed soon.

As far as others- if Kentucky lost Mark Stoops they absolutely could take a step back to where we are now with a bad hire. Arkansas has been a worse program than MSU for at least five years now until the last two years and South Carolina has essentially been the same program we are in 2022-2023. Ole Miss could absolutely take a step back if Kiffin left after this year because it's going to be very difficult to replace him and find someone that can work the portal and identify talent like him. I could go on.

if they all continue to donate as scheduled, they have roughly 22-25 mil lined up for next year. scruggs and others are keeping the booster moral high.

It's pretty widely reported that Ohio State spent $20-22 million on NIL this season. If that's what the upper crust is paying then I think you've got to assume Ole Miss is, at a minimum, approaching $20m this season to be playoff contender caliber.

Ole Miss is spending around 12. We are spending around 7-8. We are within 100-500K of almost everyone. There's some outliers like UGA, BAMA, LSU, and OM but for the most part we are right in there with everyone. People would be shocked that Texas is not spending that much because their players have been able to get national NIL deals.

You already have UT adding essentially NIL fees to the seat license and tickets. Not sure if they were putting it on the students with a fee in tuition. The buck is being passed to the fans sooner or later.

You can count on there being 5 Top 10 SEC programs and probably at least 1 other Top 20 team on the schedule again.

This program cannot make up ground with 5 guaranteed losses every year. Especially when State has proved they can get blown out by a MAC school.

When you are as down as we are right now, what costs other SEC schools 10 million to build a roster would cost us waaay more:

You are a 4 star QB from Ohio and you have 4 offers- South Carolina, Arkansas, Ole Miss and Miss State. You like all coaches and offensive styles. You would have to sit for 1 year at every school but State where you can start day 1 and State is offering 600k and the others offering 500k. With the rebuild we have in front of us you would be an idiot to go to State honestly. The difference in money offered would have to be significantly more for me to go somewhere that I know has way less resources to compete and surround me with talent.

Reading on various sites our current "DC" has a deal of $1 million per year through 2028. Can maybe understand $ in today's out of control sports world, but not a 4 year deal for our second hire two years in a row of a rookie on the job training DC among other questionable hires the last few years.
