It wasn't that long ago. In fact, it was just 1 head Coach ago. Hmmm.

I believe folks are gonna be really happy to have Lebby come year four. He's a lot like Heupel.

Not all of us. I was hoping for Heupul when we hired Leach. Could've gotten him then. But as usual, we had no brains, vision or guts to make a good hire on an up-and-coming young coach. Had to hire the retread that everyone else in the SEC spent the last 2 decades avoiding because our baseball coach masquerading as AD wanted to prove he was smarter than everyone else.

Well he is going to be here that long. I hope he can develop talent like Merls and also adapt his offense as Saban did. Plus hire a D Coordinator who Coached in the SEC

When we won 9 games he did look pretty smart.

Huepel would not have worked here. He does great with the blue chips Tennessee resources provide but would have flamed out with the 2 and 3 stars we had. He likely knew that and would have turned us down too.

Could not stand the air raid. Hated it. But I understand what Cohen was trying to do.

I cant give up ob Lebby yet. I want to give him a few seasons to get his offense locked down and get the right guys in place... now the defense.. I am 100% done with. We have to bring in a top notch DC and get this "friend hire" out of here.

I don't think Hutzler was his first choice. And if that's the case I really doubt he is going to keep him around no matter what.

I agree. I think a couple of these hires were "referred" to him. And I feel pretty confident a couple of retread hires and "keepers" were also pushed upon him by the admin under orders from behind the scenes alumni.

Agree. Looked smart having a system the rest of the SEC said was difficult to prepare for in one week, and that we knew other than Bama, that we were in every game at kickoff.
I had always heard Benko was the one that suggested and reached out to Leach, after the Joe Judge debacle, and that Benko was the one making that connection with Leach for a job offer.

Another reason I wanted Benko back. He did know MSU well enough to know we needed something as a talent offset against SEC teams.

Why hate on a dead guy that had our program back to relevancy? Regardless of someone's taste in offense we put points on the scoreboard and won games. We had a decent D too. If Leach is still our coach there's a good shot we'd be 4-0 right now looking to extend the bowl streak we flushed down the toilet with the worst hire in our schools history last year. Also according to the class rankings Leach recruited at the level we've recruited at the past 15 years which is between 20 and 30. There's no reason we should be in this position now where we're all saying this is the worst team for State to ever field. Keenum wrecked this program and hopefully Lebby can do something in 3 years but if not he and Selmon can both hit the road.

Edit: I'll also add that with Leach at the helm we'd be going into Austin this weekend with a feeling that anything can happen. Instead now we know we're going to get destroyed and Texas can name their score.

Keenum and Cohen are to blame. I don't hate Selmon b/c he walked into a dumpster athletic department that was probably still using dial up instead of ethernet. He hired Lebby b/c he felt it was safe and he needed someone he could trust. I really don't fault him for that. But if Lebby hasn't got this thing light years better by season three both need to be canned along with Keenum. Frankly, I think Keenum has overstayed his welcome and needs to move on.

I read through the posts , and I don't see anyone hating on Leach.

You are correct, if we had Leach or the similar system, and a really good DC, we enter every game thinking anything can happen. MSU needs the offense that equalizes talent in this conference. We had it. It could be tweaked, yes, and better QBs coming in too.
Coach Lea at Vandy is doing a model plan, for what we had in place of a good defense, and an offense that is tougher to prepare for. We blew it up because winning the games like that was boring.

We need stability at head coach. I like what I'm seeing offensively if we can just execute better. The ex OL coach from ARK though probably needs to go with the DC. Maybe our DC isn't ready yet and is still useful in some other role though. There's a reason ARK OL looks much improved this year vs last year.

3 different offenses in the last 3 seasons doesn't help.

Fix the OL and DL first and the rest will fall into place.

I don't even blame Arnett for last year if it's true he wanted to keep air raid style and was manipulated by those in the program to change it. Seriously these people need to be kept far away from MSU football.

That falls on Keenum. No AD and we promote Arnett into the head coaching position and allow boosters to run the program. We should have had an AD in place before Leach died. Again, falls right on Keenum.

Did you skip post #4?

Sorry, I missed seeing that one.
Leach was ideal for us, in rebuilding toughness after Moorhead.

I liked the Covid year Leach took a team to Georgia, and he could have canceled. Instead he said "no excuses", and we gave them all they wanted that night.
Then a couple seasons later after he passes we hear media and posters say we need to get back to MSU football. To me Leach brought the best MSU mentality we ever had.
