We dont have their RB.

That is someone we could have and should have gotten

We have to find people like that.

He only had 49 yards against Wyoming. This defense is the most talent-lacking I've ever seen. Plus, our DC has only called two games ever and our DL coach refuses to do his job in recruiting. Basically, it's a mess!

ASU has 60 new players, so at least 35 Portal transfers. They kicked our ass with them, and no they did not get the creme of the crop of Portal transfers.

We all know of HS and JuCo scouting to find talent. Well, fact is with NIL + 1 time immediate eligibility, almost every college team is also up for "recruting". Even tampering rules are a joke and the NCAA wont do anything about it. So every player in D1 is as recruit-able as a HS senior. BUT, while a HS senior can sit on your bench a year and transfer out before he gives you anything, the Portal has older more experienced more mature already coached up guys that can play day 1.

What I'm saying is that world is our oyster if we can figure out how to evaluate these Portal kids. There's no reason for Arizona or Arizona State to be able to build teams from the Portal while we have historically bad defensive talent.

I know we don't spend much on our off field staff, but surely it's not less than ASU right? Surely we have more FB money than them

If the DC changes the defensive scheme to a 4 down DL with another LB we easily win the game.

If he had changed it to a 5-2-4 with the 4 playing man, State would have won. Hutzler stuck with the 3-3-5 this year. And he couldn't blitz and really had no need to. Walk the 2 outside linebackers up to the end spots, pull one of the 2 strong safeties out and put Purvis in on every down except a few to rest. Jennings had a great game tackling but most were 7 yards down field, Blanton also made several stops but also he was laying on his backside with Scatterbo's Clete marks on his chest on most of them. Smith made way too many tackles in run plays 10-12 yards downfield. The correct term when asked by the media what defense you play is..... MULTIPLE!

When Wyatt dies his film study this week, it should be on what we did wrong defensively, not the positives we did right on offense. They ran through the A gap, the B gap, the C gap and the D gap successfully. He needs to show why they were able to do that!

We didn't have enough beans to buy an SEC DL. So here we are and will continue to be until we figure this out.

I agree but I'm not sure if we have a fourth down DL.

The RB at ASU is far tougher than any RB on our team. He has a toughness that you just don’t see in our backs.

I went to the game and my buddy I was with kept on about 3 down linemen and all I said is, ?I don?t think we have the bodies to go with 4.? Something that?s been overlooked is how atrocious the linebacker play was too. Our outside linebackers routinely got spun around not stretching the play out and then you compound that with not having to double any of the DL and you end up with the result we saw.

The O-Line in front of him was gettin it done. Yes, Skattebo is tough, and was gettin yards after contact, but he had some serious running lanes to work with.

Well it's been "Obvious" since the 1st game that there are 2 glaring issues. 1. Our Dline is slow and weak. No push and penetration at all, yes they're getting blown off the LOS. 2nd our tackling is junior high atrocious. We have no Abrams or another DB who is a "Slobberknocker" who scares the crap out of a receiver. At least Purvis started knocking heads in the 2nd half.

Why Purvis doesn?t start in front of Blanton is beyond me. Blanton is slow weak and small. Purvis is small fast and just gets to the ball. Always has.

Hey I knoew some of you guys where at State in the 60s but didn't Skatterbo remind you of Grange? I saw films of him on YT of his running when he was with the Oilers and both were very similar.

Purvis always seem to be around the ball. I like his play and he and Smith showed the only toughness on D I thought.

Not true at all, we simply have a coach on staff who refuses to adjust to the new college football recruiting

I can tell you why they were able to do that. I do not need a film study. I watched them multiple times ABSOLUTELY WASH our NT and work up to the LBs They were able to do that because they were able to double us everywhere on the line and work up to the LBs. I agree with a previous poster who said we need to ditch the 3-3-5. A 4-2-5 is probably what we need to be in. Let Mitchell be the extra down guy and then get Donterry Russell in there on passing downs where he can go get the QB. Again, I have no clue if that will help in the long term, but we have to do something or teams like UGA, Mizzou, Texas, and OM are going to run for 400 yds on us.

This is correct. Turner is refusing to play the game. He is resting his laurels on players HE HELPED RECRUIT a decade ago. We need to move off him this offseason.

We are just 2 games into this season. I don't want to "wait til next year" to fix the problem. Demote him, and tell next man up to go to 4 fat guys across the Dline and tell em to just get in somebody's damn way if they cannot tackle them. Grab em by the jock and hold on until Purvis and Smith get there!

Yes, that and Shapen not turning the ball over. Both of those and we win.

If that's the case we need to get some backup OL on the DL side of the ball this week.

Posted something similar to this last season:

Rookie HC
Rookie DC
New S&C staff
New OL (Not up to SEC talent I'm afraid)
DL (Out recruited for about 3 or so years) lacking talent & depth
Killer Schedule

What could possibly go wrong? (And I bet my MSU cousin $2 we go at least 6-6 and another $1 we beat Arkansas at our HS game a week ago!)***
