View Full Version : Week 2 Prediction Thread- It's a Dry Hate

A solid win and a lot to like last week. Thought Shapen controlled the offense and our receivers came to play. Running game is a bit of a concern and as we knew the D will be a work in progress. Saying all that, I got us this week 45-28. I think it's a closish game late but we pull away with a late TD.

Tiebreakers

Shapen Pass Yds- 360

Team Rush Yds- 120

Coleman Receiving TDs- 1

Wyoming was 8-4 last year (7-0 at home), Laramie WY 7,200 ft elevation. They won 1 road game vs 2-10 Nevada.

I think it's a 35-24 State type game.

Shapen 320
Rushing 150
Coleman 1

The other difference...Wyoming lost a longtime HC, 8 players to the NFL(UDFA's mostly), and 14 to the portal.

If Hutzler's defense can keep ASU to 21 points or under, I'll be impressed with his coaching potential. I think our speed on both sides of the ball will be the difference maker here. Wyoming was slow.

So... Dawgs 38 - Sun Devils 23

Shapen 340 (one rushing TD)
Rushing 140
Coleman 1
Creed 2

Yeah, sounds like the 2022 @ Arizona game in Leach's last year. That's about what I see as well.

Then again, ASU did a one year rebuild with massive use of the transfer portal like their sister school did last year and they (Arizona) won 9 games last year (though they lost to our worst team since Croom).

I agree. We have the best group receivers we’ve had in a LONG time. Run game may be a little soft though. We will see as the year progresses.

Yall don't want my prediction. Too many years of being burnt have me jaded. I'll just say I don't think this is one we win. Late night, out west - going to be tough. Yes, I know we've done it before.

I think the only way they win is if we lose the turnover margin. I want to see our trenches out physical them to make me feel better going forward

I do not think we win this either because ASU is improved. If it was in Starkville I would reverse the score but going 31-28 ASU

I'm almost never positive, but the negativity against our team this year makes me sick. Until proven otherwise **** all of you negative assholes. This game isn't gonna be close. We win by 3 TDs+ and it's never close. 41-17 Dawgs.

We need our this to be a blow out if we want any chance to be relevant this year in the SEC. We need the lines to dominate and we need to see that week 1 to week 2 improvement. That being said this prediction is based off of what I think we need to see to have relevance in the SEC.

State 45-17 and all their points came in the first half.

I always find it funny when you look at these prediction threads of mostly everyone predicting a win, and then I get blasted for calling out a crap performance in the game thread. I certainly think Lebby deserves a chance to fix it, but when you get manhandled at a level like last night, it's hard for me to see long term success. Can anyone give me an example of a first year sec coach getting outrushed 340 to 30 by an OOC non-champion level team and then having success at that school? Physicality is a pretty big deal in our conf

Most other coaches weren't left with a non existent roster. Face it the cupboards were bare. Lebby gets a pass on this season/

Was our cupboard so bare that we can't even hold up physically with ASU? We've outrecruited them the last 4 seasons and particularly last season.

Yup

I don't buy that, but ok. This board was excited about our oline this offseason, and they can't run the ball at all with running backs. I honestly can't remember an OOC pushing us around like that since Ricky Williams at Texas.

It might have been you but earlier this summer there were threads being posted about the concerns that Reese was our only returning starter on offense/ And it was said that this was going to be a very long year. One question that I do have is are there any designed QB rushing plays?

Look, I've been with you on a lot of stuff - I was one of the few thinking this was going to be an "L" because we were going to lose on both lines of scrimmage. BUT - It's far too early to start calling Lebby a bad hire. The offense sucked the first half last night, but I've seen a lot of things on that side of the ball that give me hope. The DC hire is questionable now, but even there we made some adjustments that got us back in the game, even though it looked like a blow out at that point. Plenty of negatives from Saturday, but plenty of positives too. We can build on this. The main thing we need right now is talent, not a new coach.

The 3-3-5 may not work well for us this year, but what is he going to do? We have very little talent at both the DL and LB positions. So do we add another bad DL to the equation just to take one more small LB off the field, or do we try to keep that "speed" on the field. Heck, I don't know, but neither choice is good. I think we're going to just have to walk some safeties up to try to stop the run. It's going to be ugly as long as we have a DL that can't at least slow down the RB. Anyone is going to have a hard time tackling a guy that has a full head of steam for 8 yards before getting touched.
