Dont stop believin in the 4th quarter. It was kinda cheesy yes but it was ours and yall cant lie it had the place lit most games.

Sweet dreams is fine with me but I think it?s our baseball teams thing. We need to get our own song for the football team. The band could do like LSUs band does to start the 4th and get it going.

When they play the first part of our fight song real loud and hold the notes it gives me chills. Yall know what Im talking about? Do that or something unique to the football team. MS Queen would be good it has a cowbell in it

LSU band song they play in football is untouchable. There?s nothing like it.

To each their own.?don?t stop believing is effeminate to me, especially for a violent sport like football.

Maybe the fans dig it?.

I don't like Don't Stop Believing as a football song. Like the song is basically saying "success may seem unlikely, but if you keep believing it's possible maybe it is". What a LOOSER message to sing at a sporting event lol, like we shouldn't be saying "we have a shot to win this!" we should be rubbing in our opponents faces how miserable it is to play us

I like Sweet Dreams in that spot. They still play Don't Stop Believing later in the 4th quarter if we're winning or the game is close. Unfortunately they didn't have the opportunity to play it as much last year...

There was one year, 2015 I believe, that we had Holder on the jumbotron and he takes off his helmet and God's Gonna Cut You Down started playing. I thought that was a cool one.

I still think an instrumental of Hair of the Dog (which also has a cowbell) blaring with a montage of big defensive hits and wild TD's by the offense playing on the video board should either be included just before For Whom the Bell Tolls at runout or between the 3rd and 4th quarters.

I don’t really think Don’t stop believing was effeminate. A lot of the baseball players use chick songs because it’s funny. If you’re worried about it, just request Big Balls by ACDC.

Here is the thing about traditions like that - they have to be organic and they have to be something that the vast majority of the public recognizes and it needs to be participatory.
That is what worked about "Don't Stop Believing" - it was a riff off a comment Mullen made, our game day crew ran with it, and it became an instant thing because it was something most people knew it and could sing along and cowbell to. It also helped that we were winning. Hair of the Dog and Let the bodies hit the floor, etc wont work because most people don't know them, they have no link to MSU/MSU coaches/MSU players.

Personally, I think the lyrics of DSB worked because that's really an ethos you have to have to be an MSU fan.

Like Kenzaki Jones leading the "original" Dog Pound Rock and the players on the sideline pumping the crowd up like we've never seen before. That was original and organic.

You mean something that kills the energy like a voice which sounds like a cross between a game show host and a tractor pull commercial coming over the PA system at the height of pre-game fan excitement to announce that it's time for the maroon and white cheer followed by instructions isn't organic? **

Don't forget that that PA system sounds like a tin can on a string.

Ranks right up there with "ANOTHER T!!!!!!"

The maroon and white cheer is great when fans start it and it rocks any of one of DWS/The Hump/Dude - or if you've been lucky enough to hear it takeover Omaha, Atlanta, or The Swamp.

But, you and WSOP are dead on. That's also why we have to hold on to cowbells - it's really our only major tradition that has stood the test of time, the test of being mainstreamed/overused/forced at times, and survived being banned.

Man... Don't Stop Believing was pretty awful. It was solid for 2014 the first time they did it (Auburn maybe?) and had a place for a few games that year but it was run into the ground and cringy by the time we got done with it.

I'm glad we've leaned a bit into For My Dawgs

Why the 17 do we play the drop kick murphy's "I'm Shipping up to Boston"? That's so dumb to me.

Exactly. Traditions just happen. They usually aren't planned by the marketing department.

We complain about not having enough traditions in football but then we shit all over Don't Stop Believing. I don't get it.

It's going to be hard to find something that is "THAT".

If Don't Stop Believing is too effeminate, then how about something from AC-DC? Thunderstruck would be a good one. Of course, we'd need the right PA system to make it work.

I still say this (couldn't find just a full instrumental but I can imagine the students picking up the vocal part that is left in this version)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSwjTWjT1zg

with a cut-up of highlights on the video board like this

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9iNlrFDKW4&t=324s

Open each one in a separate window, turn down the volume on the highlights, crank up the volume on the other one then start them both. I think with professional editing, it would work. Not sure it'd be the perfect 4th quarter song but it would be hard to beat it pre-game just before the players run out.

And, it actually starts with a cowbell.

As the chorus of my choice above definitely does. Of course they couldn't play the lyrics but that wouldn't stop students and other fans from singing them.

I have never liked Journey, but millions of albums sold and still touring proves millions do. I am a Ted Nugent, UFO, AC/DC, Alice Cooper type with over 100 concerts under my belt (mainly at the Late, Great Mid South Coliseum). I think in our atmosphere and a somewhat family type setting some of the aggressive hard rock songs won't be played or can't be played very long into them. Examples: Hair of a Dog, can't go long as chorus is distinctly, "Now You're Messing with a SOB", Stranglehold, Very quickly, "Here I Come Now Baby, Like a Dog in Heat' (Most people don't understand or notice). Hell's Bells, speaks for itself. We play the intro a little of Stranglehold which I think is great for the defence hitting the field. "Mississippi Queen" by Mountain needs to be played as we hit the field as it starts with cowbells, has on aggressive riff and it is about Mississippi. No, wait it tells of the "things" the MS Queen taught him!*** Barry Manilow got any good FB songs?*** Saw him at McCarthy back in my college years (Free ticket and went with coed friends).

"Another T" is classic.

I continue to maintain that the Maroon & White cheer would be drastically improved with a fixed structure that starts slow, increases in speed, and then has an intense actual ending. It would be so much better than the weak petering out that we normally have with that cheer.

Hell's Bells and For Whom the Bell Tolls could have been adopted a long time ago before both were used by the NFL. Missed opportunity.
