Happy Birthday to the voice of the Bulldogs, Jack Cristil. I think this should be devoted to the greatest call by Jack in our memories.

Happy Birthday to the voice of the Bulldogs, Jack Cristil. I think this should be devoted to the greatest call by Jack in our memories.

I used to listen to Jack on a portable radio in the stadium for every game...it was a requirement. Kinda geeky, I know, but I loved listening to Jack. Some of my favorite Jack-isms that I can remember:

- on the Kentucky QB Tim Couch: "He's back to pass and he gets MURDERED by Ashley Cooper."
- on Auburn running back Rudi Johnson: "The give is to Johnson and CAN NOT GO."
- on the 1998 Westerfield FG to beat Arkansas: "The kick is up, and...wrap it in maroon and white! Wrap it in maroon and white! The crowd is flowing onto the field to wrap it in maroon and white!"
- several times but one of my favorite sayings: "The crowd is ALIVE."

So many more...this could be a 40 page thread, I'm sure. It's not about the things he said...but more the tone in his voice when he said them, and the circumstances around them. I can still hear them in my head. I miss Jack.

I wasn't there but I was listening to the radio and hanging on Jack's every word on Nov 1, 1980. I heard the famous call live....."Bulldogs recover, Bulldogs recover!" His greatest call ever.

Also, I listened to many more basketball games via Jack than football.

Jack is great in so many ways. I think it's cool that my great grandfather, who I never met, used to listen to Jack in the 50's. My GGF, "Shuck" Smith played football and baseball from 1908-1911. People have told me that he would drive however far he had to to pick up the game on the radio and pull the car over and listen to the game on the side of the road. It's amazing to me that Jack did it for so long.

I like the one he said in the post game show after the Auburn game that was 3 to 2. "The best drive of the game will be my trip back to Tupelo." Classic!!
