"It could be a long season in Starkville. Jeff Lebby is the first-year head coach for the Bulldogs and has transfer quarterback Blake Shapen leading his offense. Shapen was fine in Waco as the quarterback for the Baylor Bears but was not someone anyone would consider a star. He completed 61.7% of his passes for 2,188 yards with 13 touchdowns to only three interceptions as Baylor struggled, leaving Dave Aranda on the hot seat heading into 2024. Shapen will now be asked to lead a new offense in a more difficult conference under a first-year head coach."
Mississippi State 2024 Win projection: 4.5
Not a rousing endorsement, but not unexpected.
But this same group picked Will Rogers as the 22nd best QB in the nation. Go figure.

There's too many variables for publications like this. What's Shapens' tools? What does he excel at? how did Baylors' offense match them? How does Lebbys offense match it? Was Shapen holding back Baylors offense, or were there other flaws? What are the flaws will he have to live with at State?
They just glance at stats and the names on the helmet. They don't have time to do anything deeper

You can spin an article any way you like as long as you know a couple facts. He could have just as easily said, "Shapen is a former big12 championship game MVP, with an impressive highlight reel, who fits very well with what Lebby wants QBs to do in his system." It really is all about fit, Brady is the goat but nobody would know his name if he was in the Paul Johnson triple option.

Shapen is the real deal. He is the least of our worries. Stay healthy and he will be a damn good one

Health is the key. Can he do something he has not consistently done in his career.

Let me know when someone actually has positive pre-season things to say about State!
Shapen looks the part if they can keep him healthy....no worries about him or the offense in general.
Defense is another story.
Lets just see where the chips fall, hopefully we are pleasantly surprised......but we are talking about the most pessimistic fan base in college athletics....do there's that.

Question for the experts. Parson seems to fit this offense better than the air raid or the can of Raid we had last year. Is he not as talented as we all first thought or is Shapen just so good he separates himself from the #2 good quarterback? or ??

There are some questions around Parson and his ability to quickly get rid of the ball. He still needs another year IMO. This will basically be his 3rd scheme in 3 years.

Can of Raid offense is the best thing I've ever heard that offense called. Have some rep!!!!!
You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to NWADAWG again.

How good is our OL projected to be?
As they go, so goes Shapen and how his season pans out. From what I understand and reading some Baylor comments when he transferred - he got hung out to dry by their OL and lack of talent which exposed him causing the hits that resulted in concussions.

I think it will be the best OL we have had since 2018
