Friday night starter for UK transferring to us unless the draft gets him. Anybody have any opinions on our chances with Travis Smith?

Former Friday night starter that ended up coming out of the bullpen for the Cats.

Comes down to his talks with MLB before the draft and what his number is. If he goes in the Top 10 rounds he will be most assuredly gone. Makes it out of there- he will be in maroon.

I think he may be able to parlay a good 2025 into a bigger payday if he has a season like Khal Stephen.

No doubt- he RS'ed in 2022 so he still has leverage

He struggled bad this year. High ceiling.
Hoping Parker can fix him.

Lexington > Starkville from what I hear. Plus that KY money.....so we have no shot ***

Yep. Upside is he is developing a reputation for being a guy who can really develop a talented arm.

I love our fans. This is Kentucky's Holcombe. Hopefully we can fix him

Dude had pretty good stats, all things considered. Much more polished than Colby ever was here. He's got a great chance to improve under Parker, and doesn't have as quirky of a delivery.

He has some really good talent for sure but like Holcombe his wildness has been his undoing. 36.2 IP's with 22BB's and 5 HBP's. That's also caused him to give up 38 hits in those innings as well with too damn many ER's.
The difference tho and why I think he will be easier to fix is because he is more of a 2 seam FB guy vs Holcombe and the reliance of the 4 seam. Plus obviously working on the delivery. Guy has talent and thats the important thing.

His numbers are better than Holcombe. Era is 4 runs lower.

Not over their SEC career and our new signee RS'ed his freshman year while Holcombe went juco. Holcombe just couldnt get his head/arm in the right place. Hopefully Kentucky gets there and we now have 2 of our 3 weekend guys pending on Liggs, Loftin, and Grant getting right. The potential is there to have an outstanding staff. Need health and growth

That's the majority of the pitchers in the portal every year.
And why if Parker's reputation continues he will be an asset.

And Holcombe will pitch in the big leagues.

2023 they were both sec pitchers. His era was 3 runs better than Holcombe.
2024 they were both sec pitchers. His era was over 4 runs better than Holcombe.
He has had way better numbers.
Agree with the rest of what you said.
I trust Parker until proven otherwise.

We'll see about that.
Pitchers struggling in college and then figuring it out in the minors doesn't happen nearly as much as MSU fans think it does.

Colby was matured physically much sooner than his friends and was very tall at a young age and well developed. I think it was simply easy physically to overpower high school hitters when in all honesty if the hitters had been patient, they would have walked much more. Colby now needs what he should have had at age 13-15, to be more of a pitcher than a thrower.

I would be surprised if he ever pitches in the majors.
Hope he figures it out though.

Right, he's had a couple injury issues. No doubt he's the best we've gotten.
