On Thunder & Lightning this week they said Shapen had 2 years of eligibility left. Is that right?

He played 5 games in 2021 and then started the majority of games the past 2 years. That would make him a senior this year.

Is it possible to request a redshirt waiver on that freshman year? Two of the appearances were mop up duty for a few snaps in blowouts. I assume they were just getting him on the field for experience and then when the starter went down late and they made the Championship game he tipped over the 4 game limit to redshirt. Or does the championship game not count?

Bottom line - 1 or 2 years left?

According to Baylor's website he actually played in 6 games in 2021, so it should just be one year of eligibility under current rules:

The only thing that might change that is that for the last 4 years, we've had players playing 5 full seasons thanks to the extra COVID year across all sports, and I think most of it see it as a good thing. I think there's a possibility that after this season (which would be the last of the 5th year players) they just decide to make it 5 for everyone going forward, in which case he'd get 2.

Off topic- everyone should get five years of eligibility. There shouldn't be you play four games and redshirt. Then you get four after that.

I say as long as you are a student, you should be allowed to play. 3X post grads playing into their late 20s. Nice.

Well college sports are now just another professional sports leagues so why not just let them keep their jobs on the team and play as long as they want? lol.

We'll likely go from Shapen to Parson and then to Taylor.

I mean... why not. "Starting center he really is coming into his own he is rounding out his fifth masters degree and has had a great career here over the past 12 years."

He'll have time to make the decision if he's next in line by his play.
