Here are the 3 things I feel pretty confident in right now. We are going to be a pretty good football team in the trenches. OL and DL are both going to be pretty solid. DL needs depth but we will see. This will be the best OL we have had since 2018.

Shapen will break some records if he stays healthy. He is the real deal.

Our secondary is going to be fun to watch. You will either be presently surprised or laugh to keep from crying

I'll say it again, if we have just an average defense this team can win 6 games. The offense is going to be fun to watch. I've heard some good things about the offense and defense through the grapevine. I heard some of the WRs are showing out and getting the chemistry with Shapen going. It will be some of the best WRs we've had. I've heard the defense ain't gonna be as bad as some folks think. The DL is pretty stout and the corners are looking better since Spring. The offense is really pushing the defense to get better. I don't know if that jives with what you've heard Bucky but that's from a couple of guys I know with a little inside info.

And some of that may have to do with our WRs. The UTEP kid is as good as we have had since Makai Polk. And he is way more explosive than he was

I'll buy the ol part. I'll have to see on DL. Not sold on any part of the D. And the depth, which you mentioned , is bad. Which matters.

Been saying it for 4 months now and will keep saying it. Our goal is not to be a good defense. We may give up 500 yds a game. It's to be an opportunistic defense. It's going to be a lot like that 2020 Ole Miss defense. Really bad, but got some key turnovers in key situations that turned ballgames around for them.

People are also forgetting about Kevin Coleman, the Louisville transfer, and Trayore, the TE from JSU. Both those kids were recruited to JSU by Deion so they can play

That would also be the Oklahoma defense from last year too. They gave up a ton of yards but got turnovers and stops when they needed them. If they didn't have Gabriel at QB, Nic Anderson/Drake Stoops as the go to WRs, a stout OL and Lebby calling the plays they'd won 7 games max.

An exciting offense puts butts in the seats! Don't care if the defense gives up 500 yds, as long as we can score it will keep everyone engaged.

"3 yds and a cloud of dust" or "check down Charlie" both create apathy.

Who looks to be the starters on d line? Russell, dinkins, Williams, Russell?

This!!!! Outscoring the opponent will make for exciting games!

I actually think the backend is going to end up being ok. Certainly better than last year. More concerned with DL than anywhere. But there's going to be growing pains all over. Offense should be solid but again, going to be some growing pains. We've got a shot at 5-7 wins.

I have not seen Williams projected on the 2-deep by anyone. I have seen several with Kpaka and Bingley-Jones starting. We are running a 3-3-5, right?

I think he's a lot more nimble and with a quicker release than Costello. Now he may be injured by week 3 lol

Shapen. I keep thinking of Costello for some reason.

Couple of major differences between Shapen and Costello. Shapen went through spring ball and Costello wasn't because of COVID.

Shapen also has also run a version of this offense before. Costello had never run the Air Raid before.

Costello's big issues were he was injury prone and he couldn't read defenses at all.

I think Khaumari Rogers and Jakobi Albert will surprise some fans potentially.

Albert I'll give you. I'm not entirely sure if we'll ever see Rogers play here. I think the learning curb is steeper than anyone could've imagined with him. There were a lot of reports last year of him being burnt multiple times every practice that he was healthy enough to participate.

Radar Jones and Rogers will be lucky to play a snap.

The defense is a 3-4, 4-2-5. Mainly 4-2-5. I do think we will play hard and the front 7 will be decent if we avoid injuries. The LBs are the best position IMO. I am obviously very worried about the secondary.

Same reason we took Rogers?they were both former 4* kids out of HS a certain group of boosters thought we needed because they were former 4* kids from MS. I hate to say it, but it?s the truth.

3 yards football is how the game was played for most of its existence. FB was invented to be a tough, physical game, not a finesse game, a game for wusses.

Yeah idk why we took Raydar

Raydar got spot time at LSU as a young player, even in big SEC games. Hard to believe a few years of development later he can't fill any useful role at all in a secondary people expect to be somewhere between bad and inconsistent.

Maybe he has just fallen off - it happens. Confidence, injury, lack of discipline, whatever.

Can't help but note that neither Dewhurst and Macbath both landed in Analyst positions at lower tier destinations. Maybe Barnes, Bell, and Odom can get some production out of this unit that the previous staff couldn't.

I think this is exactly right. We may not see many 3 and outs or even punts. But we could see some crazy shootouts and if some blue blood team makes a few mistakes coughs up the ball 2-3 times we could nab a big upset somewhere along the way.

People always say the veer and shoot is tough on the defense because they don't get much rest. Maybe the solution to that is not to play hyper-aggressive - if the goal of the offense is not game management but to stack up big plays and score as fast as possible, maybe the right match is a defense that is also hyper-aggressive, trying to create havoc and turnovers.

If we play someone else that also wants to go fast and take risks on both sides of the ball, we could see a 200 play game (maybe the Egg Bowl).

I think the only reason K. rogers hasn’t been cut is because of who his daddy is. I don’t think he is an SEC athlete, post injury

I remember him having a good spring game a couple of years ago and I knew he got hurt. I hate to hear that he maybe isn't fully recovered.

Darcell nuked himself in the coaching community. He was going around tell our commits and potential transfer portal pieces to not sign with us. He was saying our new staff was snakes. Bitterness probably cost him his future in this profession, or at least cost him a few years and probably need to start over.

Dewhurst was just far too green. He was a product of right place, right time. Arnett was coaching safeties and Dewhurst was his GA. Arnett got promoted and so did Dewhurst.
