Cleaning up and clearing out

Well after a month ban, I have a few things to get off my mind before an even longer break. This is long but don't worry, I won't be posting much and maybe any going forward. Those that don't like me, flame away all you want.

First, I respect rules of the board and right of a private board to do what they want. I got ban for a month for a political comment. I'm sure others on the thread maybe got banned too. OK, fine.

However, here is my beef.

I have been a respectful poster for over a decade. I never insult or personally attack or call others ugly names, call them stupid, etc. Everyone has an opinion even if I disagree. I am true maroon. My dad graduated at MSU, I did as well, both my kids MSU - one already graduated and my youngest is a junior this fall. I am a season ticket holder. I give an support my school academically, financially, and in service volunteering at various speaking, mentoring, etc. with MSU schools and students.

I made one comment on a political thread and get banned for 30 days during the entire MSU baseball end of year and entire post season. A week would have been fair but causing me to miss being part of MSU baseball postseason on a board I've contributed to for over a decade is over the top.

On top of that I saw posters who didn't get banned piling on those banned, insulting, and call down from their ivory tower at me and others. Like a pack of dogs turning on their own. Then the ridiculous long ban. There are some good folks on here and good posters. I was very disappointed in a few after reading them spike the football on me and others. Really low class.

Crap like this is why MSU may never have great fan support like other schools. Stupid penalties on some of their biggest fans over something petty.

On the politics thing, well if anyone thinks politics is not in sports you ain't paying attention. Every thread has some form of politics in it. Sports and politics are all the same now. Politics is just people expressing their world view on a host of subjects. Every thread has that.

Well I've got that off my chest so God speed.

One last MSU memory of mine. This may be one reason this ban in baseball post season cut me to the core. Back in 2018, my father was battling liver cancer. He was extremely sick the last 3 months. MSU made an incredible post season run that year. My dad watched every game, every pitch on that run. My dad wasn't a big baseball guy but he bled maroon. But that year, that was about the only thing he looked forward to every day, week. He had nothing else to look forward to. That baseball run probably kept him alive another month. It took his mind off the pain, suffering and everything else wrong with him for 3 hours every time they played. He celebrated every incredible win for a brief minute forgetting about his condition just for a minute. Baseball took on a new meaning for me and MSU at end of season and post season will always be a special time for me. MSU lost in CWS and my dad passed about a week later. He wasn't going anywhere until that run was over. That is MSU baseball to me. I went to Omaha for the first time in 2021. After 2019, I told my wife, we are going to next time MSU goes (yeah I really felt like it was coming real soon too). Winning in 21 was a milestone achievement for MSU, alumni and fans. My dad watched from heaven and I know he was clanging his bell.

It's amazing what sports can do. While mine was not as serious, in 2019 I was laying in a hospital bed at MD Anderson watching that CWS. In 2021, I was back at MD Anderson getting treated during that entire CWS. It definitely helped me get through. It's hard to put into words how much that Championship meant to me.

We have enough discord over politics in this country. Perfectly reasonable for this to be a space dedicated to sports.

A month seems egregious but as long as you are consistent?

It does seem like some posts about faith or politics are fine and others are not. Apply the rules across the board.

Because we live in a hyper politicized era. Social media contributes to it a lot. My entire generation thinks their opinion is worth something just because they can post it. That’s rubbed off on the older millennials and Gen x too. I’m an older gen z myself.
