View Full Version : Chuck Oliver brought up an interesting point today.

He discussed the 12 team playoff and where the early round games might be played and which facilities might not be able to host even if their University makes the field.
And the issue might be Michigan, Penn State, Wisconsin and even Notre Dame. Penn State's AD even said he did not know how they would be able to winterize their facility for December playoff games. Some of the Big Ten ADs have even suggested they may have to use Indianapolis stadium if winter weather were to be a potential issue.
Obviously the southern Schools should not have an issue hosting in December, nor the West Coast Schools. But Midwest schools and even as rare as it might be, a northeast school like PSU, Maryland, or BC would have logistical issues. Utah, Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas State, though highly unlikely to qualify would also have hard times preparing for an on campus playoff game with significant winter weather threats.

Sucks to be them. I bet they figure it out though.

Why would they have any more issues than NFL playoff games?

sounds pretty soft to me to even bring this topic up.

Why would they have any more issues than NFL playoff games?
Even an NFL team, which is planned around a potential January game, had to postpone a playoff game just this year. College schools in the North never planned to host games past Nov

best thing to do is just play the game at the other schools stadium. this reeks of what is wrong in our country. ohio state can come play somewhere in the south. problem averted before it happens

I can't stand Chuck and this a stupid topic. NFL teams play in outdoor stadiums (Buffalo for one) in cold weather on a regular basis.

Why wouldn't they use NFL or neutral field/facilities? I figured they would use bowl sites for the playoffs, but I hadn't read into it yet.

The higher seeds earned a home field advantage, and the atmosphere is generally better at home sites than bowls.

Chuck is really good.
To say otherwise is nonsense.

Hopefully we can watch a playoff game in December at Davis Wade one day. Maybe we can go 10-2 and pull it off soon.

Colorado in December is awesome.
I think I rather watch a game in Folsom field in December than in the Southeast in September. I don't like bugs, humidity, or heat. I got soft with age, I used to run in 105 F/100% Humidity in Starkville. That's not my style anymore.
You just wear your ski clothes and take a flask of Bourbon.
Utah is also awesome. Nebraska and Oklahoma suck in December. Wet, windy, and bitter cold with ugly surroundings.
Wisconsin could winterize or just ask to borrow Packer's stadium for a ball game.

I'll make my bold prediction in this thread instead of Trapgame's thread.
#1: IF MSU ever makes the playoffs and gets a home game, Starkville will experience a freak early December ice storm and we will be forced to play at the lower seed's location.

Whiney voice and not entertaining (IMHO). That particular take is about the dumbest thing a sports radio host has ever put out ever the airwaves, worse than the Jordan vs Koby vs LeBron topics that are all too often debated.
I listen to the radio to be entertained, not to learn to hear deep takes on a football team's third team nose tackle.
