Around this board when it comes to football, apathy has definitely set in.

HS recruiting just isn't what it used to be unless it's a really big name guy.

I think the early signing day took some of the thunder out of it too. In a good way.

This is a great thing. I stopped several years ago, but this really helps not give a crap until the season starts. I won't even try or care to know the players. It'll be different saying "hey, that number 7 is pretty good".

Would be more accurate. And I prefer it the way it is now. It takes away a lot of the foolishness of all star game hat flips and it gives players an opportunity to start with their programs as soon as bowl practice starts in some cases or January at the latest.
Getting a football scholarship to a major program should be a major accomplishment not THE accomplishment.

Uh no, it's not exactly the same when half of them will likely hit the transfer portal in the first 2 years. And that's just for the commitments that actually hold through signing day in Dec.

I stopped as well. No one really knows who will and will not ultimately deliver on the playing surface. Play the games and then we'll know. Recruiting news has become passe.

Statistically that's probably been what it always has been with recruiting classes. However the difference is now they hit the portal rather than go JUCO or SWAC.

This link will expose fellow elitedoggers on how bad things are in this regard. The upper tiered elite national high school football teams are totally running high school football. Crazy when Los Angeles Trinity League teams can acquire an Ohio 5 star receiver all ready committed to Ohio State?

Meh. I learned a loooooonggggg time ago that when it comes to athlete "commitments" this time of year, that word don't mean squat. Nine times out of 10, MSU ends up being left standing at the alter; always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Those "commitments" (where MSU is concerned) only last as long as it takes for the kid to pick up a better offer from (fill in the blank). I'll put more faith in them when the signature is confirmed on the dotted line.

We've lost two 17ing players to the portal- 2
Get over the nonsensical BS in your mind, it's not real.
We'll run off more players than we'll lose to the portal. We picked up double digit commits in one weekend. I don't ever remember us doing that at any point in history. But go be miserable alone, too much good happening and we'll let you jump back on that bandwagon later.

90% of players who commit to State end up not signing? That number seems way high.

It's not the same from a fan's standpoint. It was already overhyped because of how many busts and surprises there were. Now you still have that plus a number of guys that pan out we're going to have to re-recruit at some point and possibly several times to keep them on campus after they show some success.
I'm glad Lebby is doing better and it's definitely still important, but from a fan's standpoint there's really not much point in getting invested before they get to campus and maybe not before they get to campus and you see how they react after having some success.

That's silly as hell. It's the same in every sport too. If you can't support your school's largest beneficial sport because "kids have to be recruited and they make money now" then you're simply stuck in the 80s.
State fans are the only SEC fans that think they shouldn't support the schools athletics. I think it's simply backwards ass Mississippi attitudes but Ole Miss fans don't think like that.

Are these kids top 10 at their position nationwide, freshman 5* difference makers? Cause if not, by the time they start they will be at another team, 50% of the time.

Just because somebody does not like the current college sports environment (NIL and transfer portal - aka professionals) does not mean they or we are “backwards ass”. It just means that they or we prefer the amateur status students athletes used to have along with the way they approached the game vs the way they do today. Student athletes are not employees of the university and they should not be treated as such! This is not progress, it is a regression!
This screwed up college sports environment is a result of greed and it shows in the players themselves - no loyalty, don’t play in bowl games if they are a projected high draft pick, poor on field effort if they are pissed off or demoted to second string, quit playing at a high level if they are mad at the coach, transfer at the drop of a hat - name your vice.

Football players spend over 40 hours a week with football. There's always been under the table NIL. Nothing has really changed other than the portal. In fact, the portal has created more parity if anything. And we aren't losing a bunch of portal players either. But you guys carry on with your excuses. They're all horse shit

Almost all of our starters on offense will be transfers.
I don't think that's a bad thing for us in our case.
FWIW I have heard Lebby say that he wants to eventually get to where we don't have to rely on the portal so much after the first 2-3 years.
That's a good thing for us. Under the old system we would probably be looking at a 2-3 year rebuild and instead we are looking at probably a 1 year rebuild where we have a chance to go to at least a bowl again.

Lebby is using the Lane Train portal blueprint b/c it works. Hell, Lebby probably helped Lane create it. There are reasons why OM didn't want Lebby to come to State. This is just one.

I noticed that Ole Miss and Oklahoma went the get the offense in place and then fix the defense approach that we're using also.
Not a terrible idea.

I've posted on here before that while I was watching the Alamo Bowl last year, the announcers said Jed Fisch did the same thing at Zona. They said Fisch said "Nobody, not even defensive players, want to play for a team that can't score."
