I like Lebby a lot and think he will do well here but I have pretty low expectations for this coming year, mainly because I know absolutely nothing about our players

I can't see our defense being remotely decent. It could be brutal.

I laugh at our fans thinking we were going to pull some decent sitting HC to hire after firing Arnett.

However- I do think think that Lebby is a good hire in the Mullen mold that can get us going again. BUTTTTTTTTT- this isnt 2009 and roster building is a free for all. We dont have the dudes defensively. We just dont. But we should have an offense thats not too bad. Hope we get to 5-7 and if we get 6 and a bowl Lebby is off to a great start. Support him and lets go

Roster is up on Hailstate.com. We have about 45 new players including the remainder who just enrolled for the summer. We really need FR and youg returning/injured DL to step up fast. Biggest position of concern in my opinion. We will now have to pull for the name on the front of the jersey instead of names on the back, as they will be a revolving door year to year. Game I have been watching for 60 years is over. Unlimited portal movement is worse than NIL (which I reluctantly joined). At least NFL (which I only watch when Dak and the formally hated Cowboys play), have multi-year contracts and salary caps where you can get to know the players for a few years or so. Sad, with virtually no rules now in college.

I cant name 10 people on our roster for this Fall. First time since about 1977

Yea it’s not going to be fun. If Lebby gets to 6 wins that will be a miracle. I only see 2 auto wins. Toledo won’t be easy they are top of the MAC. Obviously I think we win more than 2 but 4 or 5 is probably reasonable expectations

Know better than to put on my maroon colored glasses, but these still aren't the Shira years. I am excited about HC Lebby and think we should always now beat our OOC opponents. Arky and FL may well have dumpster fires with HC's on hot seat or gone and we have these two at home. Other teams are totally rebuilding due to NIL/Portal. Get these two in SEC and then 7-5 would be fantastic or a miracle. I recently watched "Dumb and Dumber" again and som I'm saying, "So there is a chance". We're undefeated right now like everyone else, so Hail State and won't be long until fall practice. (BTW, I do not except us to be picked dead last as long as vandy is still around. We don't have East and West Divisions in 2024, do we?).

We will be picked 15th. And rightfully so

Dude, Arnett was a 17n disaster. Ray Charles could see it.

Carry on

It seems like we're using the Ole Miss model of team building. Get the offense in place and have something exciting to watch. And then build the defense later.

I'm Ok with that. We can always get a good DC later as we have proven before if Hultzler sucks.

I really like Shapen and the skill pieces we picked up in the portal. Kelly A, Keon Coleman, and Trent Hudson along with Whittemore should be a solid group. I really like Cody Kennedy the new o-line coach too. It looks like he is a good recruiter.

Defense- I don't know. Expectations are so low I think there is a decent chance we could surprise. At least to an extent. I think Arnett rotated so little it's hard to really know what we actually have. We have some decent players on that side of the ball like Stone Blanton, the Russell brothers, Issac Smith, and I really liked what I saw from Branden Jennings the JUCO transfer in the spring game. Maybe some freshmen like Terrence Hibler can help too. We'll see.

I bet we're good enough next year to win 6-7 games and get back in a bowl.

How Lebby does here is going to be based on how well he recruits. Seems like there is a lot of wait and see with us from recruits after the Arnett disaster. Hopefully we are exciting enough to where we can attract guys.

Kamario Taylor is going to be a really good QB here. I'm ready to see what he can do in Lebby's offense. He seems like a perfect fit.

Recruiting will be the key but How? Top Dawg Camp? Recruiting by finding gems in the rough in these summer camps was the operating method of Mullen, Moorhead (Less of it) and Leach. They would have huge camps with lots of top recruits designed to get a bunch of guys in the boat and find enough guys worthy of getting an offer and then hit portal for needs. That's not Lebby's style it seems.

He is still having camps but not in the same manner and not for the purpose of signing a bunch of guys but as a camp for underclassmen training and evaluations with maybe some player/coach connections with a few seniors but certainly not all the top guys in the years class at any one time to make these big splach signing days.

My guess is probably a smaller HS class that targets guys deemed worthy and then use the portal to finish out the class is the direction I think he is going. I would not be a bit surprised if we only get 15-20 HS players this year and the rest PORTAL GUYS.

I don't know what's better. For certain, the portal has brought a whole new way to build a roster. Dabo didn't take a single portal player this year, meanwhile Deion seems to be replacing half his team. I am guessing somewhere in the middle works best and it's probably fluid based on each year or given moments circumstance. Right now, we need guys on the defense that can play day one until these guys on the roster prove otherwise. How many? I have no clue. They guys we got have their chance that's for sure.

The great thing about Lebby is he understands the portal. He headed up a lot of the portal stuff at OK. He's brought in some really nice pieces on the offensive side already. But that defense is going to be Boo Boo. I'm cool with it because I'd rather be in a shootout than knuckle dragging stick fight any day. Defense will take some time.

I expect defense to possibly be Peter Sirmon bad. I think it can be better but is definitely questionable at this point. We still went 5-7 that year with a much worse offensive talent profile. I think we will win at least 5 with as many as 8 possible, so I'll stick with 6-6 which will be a damn good job by Lebby if he gets there.
