Maybe. But teams change so much between the regular season and the bowl game that surprises are expected. I think that's why JWS lost his first three bowl games, even though we were favored in at least two of them. I think it was Air Force and NC State for two of them; I don't recall who was the other. Maybe North Carolina?

Duke (like everyone else that faces A&M and Manziel for the first time) won't be able to adequately prepare because you just can't simulate it in practice.
