Does anyone on here have any idea what it costs us in revenue not to host a regional....let's start there

Probably around 2 million in town. I think that is what a big time SEC baseball weekend packed out brings.

I have always been curious as to the economic impact for the City of Starkville during a regional weekend.

A small bar would probably see an additional 10-25K in revenue for a regional weekend. A bigger bar that serves food, IE Two Bros or The Bin, probably sees anywhere between 20-50K in additional revenue. So add everything together with all the other businesses and you probably see an additional 500K-1 million.

"Build It and They will Come", (Not if you lose 5 Quad 4 Games), so the $65 million(?) Dude sits empty for June ball for the 3rd straight year after a NC. This leads to millions in losses for the city and multi-millions in valuable positive press for the university. Maybe we win our regional and Arkansas loses theirs leading us to get a Super, much needed in many ways.

And every hotel room is booked for at least two nights that normally would not be.

I was just taking it from a restaurant POV. Add in hotels and that probably nets you an additional 100K-200K for the weekend. Of course that brings up a larger issue, we don't have nearly enough hotels for something like that. Then again, the flip side of that is that I imagine the 6 hotels we do have probably are half empty 25 weeks a year so to get an additional 3 hotels would probably be a hard sell to a hotel management company.

Most probably. I know zero about the hotel industry so no idea what a break even point is for the average property.

Try closer to $5MM, that's what Hattiesburg saw last year.

Again....that's Hattiesburg, which as 2x the amount of hotels as Starkville and probably 2x the shops, restaurants, bars, etc. Add in to that a rabid fan base like Tennessee and you get a great weekend like that. For comparison, we cleared about 1.5 for the Stanford series and about 2.5 for the UND series.

I'm telling you, it's close to $5MM, that's not a guess, it's a fact if you get the right draw with regional teams from the SE. If we pull a west coast and northeast it's less. Our regional attendance would make a Hattiesburg regional crowd look tiny. It's about people, they've all got to eat, drink, & sleep somewhere. And Hattiesburg doesn't have an Applebees.
(There's a LFL feeding joke in there somewhere)

I originally read the OP as revenue for the school but if we are talking about the city it's easily $5M. If you conservatively say a regional draws 15K people that's only $333 per person.

I know for a fact that if regional was in Starkville this weekend there would have been huge crowd just of my family there. Aprox 15-20 people all needing to stay some place, eat out for three meals, at least buy one tank of gas and buy ice beer snacks etc. That’s a lot of money times 15,000 more.

I was talking to the mayor or some member of the board of alderman maybe 3-4 years ago. The number was either 2 million for the weekend or it was 2 million per day of the large event.

"Build It and They will Come".

In today's world this is no longer true. Attendance is down in everything. TV/Streaming eliminates the need to travel

We built it for our fans to enjoy and for pride. We also built it to cut down on insurance costs with the rigs out there. It really doesnt help us in recruiting that much. All Top 30-40 programs have pitching labs, video rooms, many uniform combos, multiple hitting cages, inside facility for practice, etc.

LSU has a great stadium also but not as quite as good as ours. But players still go there because they are LSU. Players still go to Fla because its in Fla and not Mississippi. Players still go to Auburn because its only 100 miles from Atlanta, and on and on.

No doubt not hosting hurts StarkVegas. Thats a big blow when we really deserved it considering. Butttttttttttt- we got to host a few times in years past when we didnt deserve it also. We've hosted twice when we missed the SEC Tourney in the old days. Thats why looking at the big picture is a much better way of looking at things instead of the small looking glass of two seasons and such

I was meaning money to the school. I'm wanting to consider what the break-even is if we use future player pay money to reinvest in starting pitchers and better role players and how easily that is paid beck by just securing a regional host.

There's virtually no way to cover the costs with all of that. Another reason football better become THE Priority.
