We have a family friend who’s son son played baseball at another SEC school for 4yrs. His first year playing he played only sporadically hit .290. Which was decent for freshman that played only part time. Sophomore year he went thru a really bad slump his batting average dropped to .200. The coaches wanted him to go to a psychiatrist to be hypnotized to get him out of his batting slump. He didn’t go and he eventually started hitting a little better only to .228

We've been saying that all season. Still waiting....

What makes you think they're going to all of a sudden going to start hitting from one weekend to the next when they haven't done so for the most of the season, especially the last half? Hines is so predictable it's not even funny anymore and Jordan pulls his head off the ball so badly I'm surprised he ever makes contact. They're not going to change their approach at the plate this late in the season regardless of how much if would help themselves personally not to mention the team.

I have no idea if they will or will not.
Just saying the teams future depends on it.

No one wants these guys out of their slump more than me, but the absolutely refuse to change their approach. 0-18 and 1-19 is very bad coaching or zero coaching. Guys go on slumps, but it looked like more to me.

I disagree, pitching can win the regionals.
If DJ and HH are suddenly hopeless, that's a problem for making to Omaha. However, MSU has been winning with both guys being spotty. HH is not cleanup. Maybe stir things up. Put DJ ahead of Mershon at 2, then Hujsak after Mershon.
Let DJ focus on getting on base more than driving the runs. Mershon and Hujsak seem more comfortable driving things. I think DJ gets hot before too long.

I like this idea. They will not do it but I think it is a good thought. I would do it.

7. Chance- Downs

^^^^Lemonis isnt going to do anything differently. Also I expect Larry to start every game at 2nd base. Long and Larry wouldnt play in the field for a lot of High Schools.

Larry is not a field player for playoff baseball. Glad he is hitting better but Cupp needs to play if healthy.
Long seems to do his business defensively when his mind is properly medicated and it's not his time of the month. Catchers are supposed to be high IQ players. You cannot afford a mental patient at this key position in playoff baseball.

Long now batting .196 and has thrown out no runners, but Lemonis says he frames pitches well and C34 says starting pitchers prefer him. In Long's case, "Speak loudly and carry a small stick", along with a weak arm perhaps. Start Powell in the Regionals, JMO.

True, and it's not just as simple as Jordan and Hines getting some hits. We have a team-wide issue of failing to get clutch hits with men on base, and that's been going on for quite a while. We may have one inning early where we score a few, and then it's all about trying to hold on to that lead for the next 6+ innings.

No way I?d bat DJ and HH in the 1st and 3rd holes right now! Maybe in the 6th and 9th slots until they get a couple of solid hits. They?re like 1 out of their last 44 combined over 5 games.
I?ve said this 4-5 times over last week but DJ and HH need to bunt toward 3rd a few times to get out their slumps. No way they throw him out as deep as they play. And, it might turn into a double on a wild throw.

how about benching them both and using them to PH if needed. is it possible their replacements could be worse than 1 for 40 which is 0.025 for those wondering

I don’t know…DJ is toast. Hell of an outfielder but he’s burnt on batting. Not letting the pitches come to him. Swinging for a homerun every time. He just needs to focus on putting the ball in play and chill the f out

There's being aggressive and there's being aggressive. Hines and DJ are the come out of your shoes every swing is going to be a homerun aggressive. They need to go watch Rowdy Jordan's 2nd inning at-bat in game 3 of the CWS to see the type of aggressive they need to be. A 3/2 pitch low and outside but close to the zone with a pos ump behind the plate. Drop down on it and slap it the other way.

Or how about our hitting coach correcting their flaws? It is kind of his job. And honestly their issues are very correctable.

who is to blame for 1 for 40? any former LL baller could do better than that after a few hrs in the cage

If you believe in odds, and there is nothing "wrong" with their swing, then there is potential for both of them to get red hot for the NCAA right at the right time.
It's like flipping a coin. If you started and flipped a coin 50 times and it was 50 times heads,,,I WILL catch up and be 50% heads and 50% tails. So, logically if they go 1-40, then we should be due some hits.

The odds don't even out in hitting a baseball. Of course, you can't be worse than 0fer either.

They may not even out, but there are Slumps in whihch players don't hit for some time, then break out of it. Players then may get hot to get back on their average.
I don't know if it will happen, but i know its a possibility.

Nope. Each chance at bat has their lifetime average possibility of being a hit at that rate.
Kind of anyway. They would have to go 30-40 to average that out. Not going to happen.

im not saying they are gonna get 30 straight hits.
I just hope the regression to the mean starts off with a bang this week.

It will happen.
Should Hines play a senior year, feel like he should. Money is probably the same.

He is projected to be a third to fifth round pick. If he goes there I don't think we're going to invest that kind of NIL to try to match that kind of slot for him. Those slot values range from 388K up to 1M. Now if he falls out past the 10th round we have a shot but if he is drafted somewhere in the top 10 rounds he probably has an agreement in place with whatever MLB team out there.
