Those financial numbers, for a game, are sickening.

If the greedy bastard# would've allowed these kids to receive money years ago this would've been avoided. BTW this is just the beginning.

Yep, Mullen was fighting for players to get a stipend for some walking around money. Now, every school is going to have to pay out 20 million per year across the sports. 200 per week sounds cheap now.

So I don't know how accurate this is but if state had 469 student athletes that's around 42.6k per athlete. I wonder how this is going to work as other schools have more athletes.
Doesn't say anything about cutting scholarships, Healthcare, etc.

For the accountants out there, say they make that and get Healthcare, room and board free, etc, would they stay in the same bracket as someone making under 47k or will that other stuff come into play with their taxes and bump them up (may still be under 47 but would be close I feel)

Will the Schools be responsible for hiring Tax preparers for the kids??

Why would those be considered employer paid benefits to the employee that are taxable?

If the schools do pay the student athlete, then they should eliminate to scholarship and make them pay their own way to school since they are now an employee! Amateur status is gone, you are now a pro baby - enjoy!!

Most schools allow their employees kids to go to school for a greatly reduced cost or for free.

Well to be fair they are a lot cheaper than other schools. Maybe they'll start asking fair price for the baseball seats***

This is the beginning of the end of college sports that most of us grew up with. The players are no longer amateur student athletes and it can be easily argues that the vast majority haven't been students for a long time. We are now watching the genesis of the minor leagues of the NFL, NBA etc. If as has been mentioned that hedge funds start investing in university Ath dept's that is truly the end as they will take over the sport and the NCAA will truly be history. Smaller institutions are going to really bear the burden here and many of their athletic programs are certain to fail, we very well may take it on the chin as well. If a school is not making a positive cash flow now they are certainly bound for the trash heap after the smoke clears.
Those that have been advocating for the demise of the NCAA as an institution may well get their wish, but beware of what chaos comes in its place. The ncaa is definitely a self serving body that really doesn't support the universities, but chaos is on the horizon as there will be little to no governance in the void that will follow the downfall of the ncaa. Can you imagine college AD's being required to follow the directives of the hedge fund managers that control the purse strings?

It's definitely very different. I was talking to a current MSU student that sat next to me at a baseball game and asked him about athletes going to class. Apparently as far as football goes they are rarely even seen on campus. Everything is online for them now. When I was a student I had classes with a lot of the players- Rod Gibson, Fred Smoot, Kelvin Love, Eric Allen, Alvin McKinley, Michael Fair, and that's just off the top of my head.
Now you have students and you have athletes.

I foresee a lot of premium seating at MSU football in the near future.

We are 17ed by this agreement. We absolutely cannot keep this up for long. I hate to think where our landing spot will be.

How much can you read into the NCAA agreeing with the Power 5 when the end game will be the Power 2 which will be the SEC and the BIG? I firmly believe that when the Power 2, of two 20 team conferences, is birthed, it will separate from the NCAA.

Just an update for fellow elitedoggers on the Power 2 evolution. I believe this link to be credible so I posted the info. After absorbing this content, I would like to restate Miami as an under the radar option. Overseas money is in the college football space thru GENIUS SPORTS based in Doha Qatar and managed globally in London. GENIUS is affiliated to North America in Miami. BTW, Miami is offering larger than normal NIL compensation?
