"I think what?s coming, I?m pretty confident in this talking to people far more powerful than me. These are billionaires in the Bay Area. There?s gonna be a breakoff of about 50-60 teams, and they?re going to be professional football," Dilfer explained. "Then everybody else is going to be what you?re saying, call it G-5, call it college football or whatever you want. We?re gonna be competing on hopefully a more level playing field. "

Do you mean professional college team league? I could see that happening. What has happened to our society?

Attached is another Josh Pate presentation. I believe it to be on point and the power brokers have been meeting. By power brokers I mean the SEC and BIG with the television networks. I declared, to fellow elitedoggers that the Power2 is coming and it will be two conferences. They are the Disney/ESPN formerly known as the SEC but just called the SEC as a proxy and the FOX, NBC, and CBS conference formerly known as the BIG10 but identified as the BIG as a proxy. They will consist as two 20 team groups i.e. the NFC and AFC lite. Vanderbilt and Rutgers will be placed somewhere outside the P2 to guarantee more premiere games to support a return on investment. This will be a football only business transaction.

I have declared this being Platonic in my observations. This does not mean that I like it. When the P2 establishes itself, it will only play games within the P2. The P2 will have its play off structure within. The rest of college football will be relegated to a version of the NIT.

At that point it's not college football anymore it's just another professional football league. Don't see why we need another nfl.

At what point will they give up the requirement for athletes to register and attend classes? And pass?

I think that with "on-line" classes and various aids (tutors, etc.) that the attendance and participation portion has been eliminated for the vast majority of "student athletes". Someone needs to register them for the class and they can spend their time practicing.

When I was in school it was not uncommon to see various players around campus in classes or walking around the Drill Field, etc. I even had a few in some classes in Engineering. I wonder how common that is today?

Yep. Walt Harris sat behind me in a computer class. He certainly wasn't there every class but he did make a semi effort to be there even though he knew he would be a pro in less than 6 months. Times were just different then.

I think it will probably be more like 50-60 teams. Although CFB is a big time sport, it will remain regional to some extent. All BIG/SEC teams will be in. UNC/FSU/ND/Miami/Clempson (and maybe a few more ACC teams), plus a few out of the Big 12 will be included. Both Arizona schools will likely be included.

TV will want to maximize the number of eyes possible, keeping fans of second tiers engaged will also bring those viewers to the 5-10 big time programs.

All some are doing now is registering.

I personally believe that the P2 will have an NFL mindset on expansion and that is the best for P2 profits. A case in point, is NFL relocation instead of expansion. The NFL owners do not want to share the 1/32nd share of television revenue with new arrivals. I believe that the London NFL franchise would be ongoing from Jacksonville if it was not for the covid delay BTW. London is a huge profit boost over Jacksonville for the NFL owners 1/32nd model. The BIG P2 players will be thinking of 1/40th shares and not 1/60th shares of television revenue. That is why I believe that the 40-team benchmark is in play.

Good points. However, TV will drive this train and each conference (the SEC and BIG) will continue to do revenue sharing how they see fit. The BIG/SEC are not going away, they will not fold into a new organization, they may elect a CFB Commissioner, but they will retain their current influence and control. If NC State is included, for example, that doesn't mean they will get the same revenue sharing as Bama. Media rights will likely still be negotiated by the conference. Obviously ND will still negotiate their own deal, I don't see them getting into a conference for football.

Some folks think the SEC/BIG will be "part of" the next segment of CFB. That is not the case, the SEC/BIG will "be" the next segment of the CFB.

If this happens I see the return of college football. The “power brokers” will want basically an NFL minor league. The rest of college will return to amateur status requiring players to enroll and go to classes. The minor league, in the long run, won’t work. It’ll die in under 10 years for a multitude of reasons.
