Kinda opposite of what Howland used to do in second half's it's when his teams always faded

Adjustments have been a godsend! All good coaches make their bones that way... unless the talent is so one-sided.

Yep. And I have a lot of respect for Howland and am thankful for him righting the program, but the game had clearly passed him by.

Agreed. Howland restored order but just was little too long in the tooth, but he gave us back dignity and respect.

Just wish we would have had a coach the caliber of Jans when we had all those legacies available! Imagine Jans with Malik Newman, Reggie Perry, Robert Woodard, Tyson Carter and Nick Weatherspoon. Those were all guys that Howland got because they were sons or brothers of former or current players. Jans hasn't had that luxury.

Getting KM going has been a key part. Not having him probably cost us 2 games.

Way to go Jans and the players. I would personally hate playing against this team. Their physicality is hard on other teams. Just hear ole miss and Ar. coaches post game whining.

This is my favorite team in 15-20 years. Just great chemistry, good team play, some great dudes on this team with talent. We have 9-10 guys that contribute big stuff on this team. Davis has really stepped up and Murphy. Others just do what they do.

Hubbard is your SEC freshman of the year - book it.

Cam just is a baller and he is the Alpha on this team. Yall see him jump in when the LSU guy try to stand over Hubbard on hard foul? LSU dude quickly retreated like he knew he should. Cam running the point has been another genius move by Jans. It has changed this O.

Musselman was complaining again yesterday about the game against us.

We need a Cam for baseball, plus a Jans for baseball. Murphy has been pretty dang solid also. Great game and adjustments last night.

I dont keep up with other teams, what are the bigger programs that will be hiring this year we need to keep away?

I think any P5 team is a threat as long as we keep boycotting games. The one I worry about most right now is Louisville

Hate to say it but you better believe if he wins a couple tourney games he is getting poached.

It's scary to think what he would do with the talent that other teams have but maybe he does better with an underdog type mentality as he has here.

Add to his current Salary what we are paying Lemonis. We need to go cheap on a baseball coach. I bet Georgia Southerns coach only makes $150K per year.

We'll see. Its going to take a big boy to pull him because of the moves made by the SEC and others to get bigger. Louisville will def be looking to make a hire. Fla State could be looking to make a move finally. Michigan is likely hiring. Ohio State is hiring

We'll see

Hey CC what coaching style/philosophy does Jans and this team remind you of. I can think of 2. 1st has to do with KC and the 85 Celtics and the other team followed them a few years later. Hint not the Bulls.

It reminds me of our 1995 team that made the Sweet 16. Tough D. Depth. Strong inside. And a shooter everybody chased around trying to stop

I'm not linking it, because it's behind a paywall, but there's an ESPN+ story out about coaches on the hot seat and potential moves during the upcoming offseason. They seem to think it's going to be a very busy coaching carousel this year. Anyway, they have Jans listed under "other coaches who could be looking around".

He's a beast

I said that right after the loss to Southern. Most here wanted to fire him. We won't get a better coach at MSU. Stick with him and sign him to a 10 year big contract even if the state of Mississippi only allows 4 year contracts. Can guarantee it with private money.

We also need to do whatever it takes to keep Hubbard in addition to Jans. This is going to be a serious task.

He's a solid coach but I wouldn't go that far. He inherited a veteran club and to his credit he pulled in Hubbard but I'm willing to bet this time next year nobody on this board will be calling him a "beast".

He has the 5th best winning percentage of active NCAA coaches.

Juco HC record (4 stops); 159-45 (.779)

Div 1 record (3 stops): 183-66 (.735).

If he makes tourney this season like projected, that'll be 5 tournies in his 7 chances. He didn't make the tourney in his only season at bowling green, but they were 21-12 after they were 12-20 the previous season.

He's really good

Also the 1 year at New Mexico State that the NCAA Tournament happened and he didn't make it, he still came in 3rd in the WAC ... with 6 games canceled for COVID reasons, all 6 of which were against the 3 worst teams in the conference.

He is fantastic. The only knock on him I can think of is that New Mexico State was successful under each of his 3 predecessors there, and all 3 of them weren't nearly as good when they moved on to other jobs. However, Jans was better than all of them at NMSU, improving on the high standard they set.

I worry about his defense first philosophy drawing run and gun, shoot first, offensive minded players of today. Time and recruiting success the next couple of years will tell the tale.
