We need to find a way off the 8/9 line.

So if we're lucky enough to win opening game, we'll get murdered by a 1-seed in the round of 32.

No difference in being an 8 or a 9. we need to get to 7 line and hopefully 6 line. But I'd rather be a 10 than an 8/9. Let the 4/5 line upset the 1's

1-3 seeds all about the same this year. No dominant teams.

Nobody stands out amongst them? Or ... They each ripe for a 1/16 upset? 🤔🤔

Buncha teams about like Tenn. Damn good teams, but not any truly great teams. And no, don't see any 16 seeds winning.

Seems like my vague memory tells me a 16 has upset a 1 once, and a 15 has upset a 2 twice ... or something close to that.

So you think we can knock out anyone in tourney since they all about like TN??

I dunno but in 2017/18 we had a team similar to this one it seems like. Up and down. Bubble team that ended up in NIT.

So folks were debating a lot about our tourney worthiness etc that year. Talking about how tough SEC was that year too if I recall correctly.

So, to refresh my memory on what Final 4 play looked like, I decided in Final 4 to watch KU-Nova game. KU had Malik Newman on it. He started at their shooting guard. The level of play in that game was far superior than anything I saw in SEC that year. Which is kinda what I was expecting. And Malik was better than any guard we had on our roster. He could really elevate. Long arms. Averaged 14.2pt/5 rebs/2.1 ast. He was their third leading scorer that year. He played pretty good D too. He was dumb to leave college (as a soph) after that year tho.

That tourney had 2 SEC Elite 8 members ... KY and TAM.

Maybe we'll get hot in Feb/Mar and do well in SEC tourney and do alright. I just ain't seeing the level of play on this team tho that I saw on that MSU team.

ETA: But again, I didn't watch TN & AU upsets. Maybe we can string some play like that together and peak going into March and do well.

I don't think we will win a 2nd round game bc of our FT shooting. My goal is win 1, which is progress.

Ok ... I get ya. I am for giving Jans time. Getting there 2 years in a row is progress too.

Flipside to that, we get in the tournament and for one weekend, someone on our team gets red hot in addition to Hubbard.

I'm hoping last game gave Davis and also Moore some much needed confidence going forward. We need them to contribute more than they had been, obviously. We're a 9 seed going into Ttown.

People forget that we have zero NCAAT wins since 2008. And that includes a loss to an 11 seed and a 12 seed.

If we are an 8 seed that bows out to Purdue or UNC in the second round, it is still our best season in a long time.

Wow ... Eleven 15s have beaten 2s? That all happen in like 15 or so years?

I thought there may have been two 16 upsets over 1s.

Yeah the second 16-1 upset was last year, Fairleigh Dickinson over Purdue. First one was in 2018, UMBC over Virginia.

Most of the 15-2 upsets have been since 2012, prior to that there were only four. But seven since then, and there has been one in each of the last three years.

And the thing is we have guys who could do that. Davis, Moore, Fort, hell even Jeffries could get hot for a weekend and we could find ourselves one of the last 16 teams standing. If we can win a first round game I feel a lot better about a second round game. Our defense is hell to prepare for and you give teams basically one day to put in place the plan to attack it? Yea I like our chances there.

On the flip side, you can use all the time to prepare for our D because you will only need one conversation as prep for our offense.
