Looking for a little travel advice. Gotta drive from the homestead in Covington County back to summer county Tennessee. Is Friday or Saturday the best drive day? Will be driving I-20 through Tuscaloosa and Birmingham then north on I-65.
It was a miserable drive coming this way yesterday.

Unfortunately that's not an option. Probably leaving Saturday morning at daybreak.
Hopefully we'll be ahead of the worst storms in Alabama.

Don't know about the weather but Saturday is almost ALWAYS best. Doesn't matter if it's from Collins or Biloxi as I have made both of those drives many many times before... warmer and rainy up here currently.

You and I aren't far apart. I'm on the Gallatin/Hendersonville line off 31.
The drive yesterday to Mississippi was miserable. Heavy rain and wind the entire drive. Headed back up probably Saturday morning.

What is the timeframe Saturday for central Alabama? I can't find anything online that gives me a good timeframe estimate.

For your route anywhere from 0200 to 1800 Sat. According to the ECMF you might be better if you leave tomorrow.

Looking at the 18Z HRRR it looks to be pushing clear of central AL around noon or so give or take a little either way as 48 hours out timing can still fluctuate.

I appreciate the information. It sucks traveling in thunderstorms, but I really want to avoid the severe weather/tornadoes.

I am!! That's why I try to pay attention because if I purposely drive into the outbreak zone, they will certainly get angry and attack my truck! They might even follow me to Tennessee. I'm hoping to sneak by them.

You need to ride with me one stormy day.

Yes I do! Guaranteed to intercept a tornado!!!
My neighbor has already figured me out. He told me I need to take my tornadoes back to Mississippi. Then yesterday he said "We haven't had a blizzard like this in years before you got here. Just sayin". Lol

If we end up building again on our place in Covington county on 84, you need to just come hang out when the storms start. You'll be in the line of fire.

That's right next to the tornado capital of the world, Smith county.

My grandparents owned 40 acres outside of Taylorsville... a tornado hit it and tore down ALL the timber from a 40 acre tract... not one tree was left standing. All that from One massive tornado

After looking at radar turning out to be a smart move/. Now if a nader hits you again tomorrow just stay away from the coast during hurricane season.

You were here at midnight and there was nothing on the radar when I went to bed a couple hours before. Woke up this morning to steady rain and fog this morning, so you made a good move leaving early. I think the severe weather with tornadoes will be well south of here.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of driving at night, but it was a nice drive actually. Especially knowing what was coming early morning and I really needed to be back by 1:00 pm today.
