I do not disagree that's the current situation. OM is Lane leaving away from irrelevance. We're an exciting coach away from being relevant to Portal and HS players. But for the moment, yeah it's looking bad

We aren't making an exciting coach hire. We aren't making any hire this year despite going 1-7 in the league

THANK YOU that's what felt off about these "previous staff" comments and I just didn't finish the thought to put it into words.

Arnett has been our DC for 3 seasons and now the HC. Leach was famously hands off on that side of the ball. Who made these awful defensive evaluations? Who failed to convince stud recruits he was the DC to play for? I have no idea what % of the blame should go to Arnett but it's definitely not the "previous staffs" fault

Leach had very little to do with the defense. I can't imagine he was ordering Arnett to take so and so CB, for example. So who was in charge of defensive evaluations? Who was in charge of convincing recruits to play defense for us? There's just no way to exempt Arnett from any responsibility in recruiting bad defensive players for 3 seasons and/or failing to develop them to where it looks like they're bad.

Correct, no hire will be made this year. But year 2 after we go 4-8? Make a good hire there and we're in business. Well, after 2 years heavy Portal processing and good roster management anyway. And it''' be hard to get a good coach because our program will be in an awful spot, but there will be a good coach out there that would take it. We won't find him, but there's a mathematical chance at least

An offensive minded HC should not have to "emphasize" the importance of the DL to a DC. The DC should already be aware and place extra attention there in recruiting.

Again, unless Leach was micromanaging defensive recruiting and evaluation, some blame falls on Arnett. Not 100%, but some. And that's a bad look when your new defensive minded HC doesn't know how ot evaluate defensive talent

We played much better than I expected. Defense sucks but we knew that. Rattler is damn good. No way we should have even had a chance tonight if we played like the first 3 games.

I agree with your NIL assessment. If Colorado can go fro ma 1-11 team last year to probably 7-5 this season, and if Zona can made a decent team with Portal guys, I don't see why we couldn't also add legit portal kids too. We don't have less NIL than them. We will always be behind the 8 ball though. I'm talking bowl games here- we will never compete for a championship

Bama doesn't have a QB on their roster than can compare to what we've faced the past two weeks. Now they will probably beat us pretty bad because of the talent gap, but they won't beat us like LSU did.
That's assuming we play better than we did tonight on D and at least as good on offense.

Ok ... not gonna argue it but Zach is young DC from a different region. And I'm pretty sure on most teams the HC is usually the final call on recruits.

Either way .... we need to step up our Dline recruiting IMO.
