Why is using burner phones more serious than all the other charges? Because they lied about having them? Didn't they lie about the other things too?

Because you can use them to contact recruits during dead periods, on recruiting visits to other schools, pick up money from boosters, arrange meeting an escort posing as their potential girlfriend once they got to Ole Miss and etc.
The only reason a school would give a high school player a burner phone is for recruiting purposes.

Because it shows that they set out to intentionally break the rules and proves that their whole 'mistakes were made' mantra is a crock of shit.

NCAA has already proven improper contact with recruits as part of several allegations, but coaches declaring to the NCAA that they don't have them only to find out later they do will result in immediate show causes for all of them. You lie. You sit. And you invite the NCAA back to start exploring new phone calls. Depending on when they were using them, it could be disastrous. During the NCAA investigation? The NCAA isn't going to put up with much more bullshit before shutting them down completely. Ole Miss is basically forcing their hand at this point.
