Here’s an update on the 7 first-round unsigned high school players from 2009 – 2017
Aiken Brady - 1st overall by Astros in 2014. Offered $6.5M but offer reduced to $5M after health issues were diagnosed during his physical. Attended IMG Academy and had TJ surgery during his first year. Signed with the Indians in 2015 for $2.5M and is still in the minors.
Matt Krook - drafted by the Marlins in 2013. Failed physical with the Marlins and opted to play for the Oregon Ducks. Had TJ surgery in 2014. Drafted and signed in 2016 with the Giants in the 4th Round.
Tyler Beeda - Drafted by the Blue Jays in 2011 as the 21st player selected. Offered a $2.4M bonus. Decided to play for Vanderbilt and drafted 14th overall in 2014. Signed for a @2.65M bonus.
Dylan Covey - Selected in 2010 by the Brewers but failed to sign when Type 1 Diabetes was discovered during team physical. Bonus offered at that time was $2M. Played for the University of San Diego. Later signed with the Athletics in the 4th round (131st) of the 2013 draft. Signing bonus $370K.
LeVon Washington - Drafted by the Devil Rays in 2009 and offered $1.2M. Signed with the Florida Gators. Drafted in the 2nd round in 2010 by the Indians and signed. Although considered a top prospect, he has spent the last 10 years in the minors with various injuries.
Phil Bickford – Selected 10th overall in 2013 by the Blue Jays. Did not sign and attended Cal State Fullerton. Drafted by the Giants in 2015 as the 18th overall pick and signed for a $2.3M bonus.
Matt Purke - 14th overall pick by the Rangers in 2009. Turned down a reported $4M bonus. Played at TCU where he had a 21-1 record and an ERA of 2.61 during his two seasons with the Horned Frogs. Drafted in the 3th round by the Nationals in 2013. Health concerns had dropped his draft position. Still signed a 4 year deal with a $2.75M bonus.

They went in the 4th and 6th rounds. And the money isn’t close to what it is today.

Does anyone think he purposely gave a high number he knew they might not reach, so he would have an excuse to come to school? Like he wanted the Dogers to make the decision for him because it’s too difficult of a decision to make. I kind of get the feeling Mangum may have done that. It looks like just from an emotional, gut feeling standpoint, Mangum wanted to play at State as long as he could because he just flat out loves the place and the experience. But it’s obviously tough to turn down millions. People are saying Ginn really wants to play at State, and it seems like he’s got an impossible decision. It’s hard to say no to either offer. Maybe I’m naive, and it’s all posturing?

So, after incessantly talking about this for how long, Ginn commits to State, and......not a peep?
