YES, UM Still Cheating
Have posted before about how dirty the recruitment of Cam Akers was by Rev. Freeze. Got another golden nugget today.
My good friend, who went to MS Valley with Cam's step-father, Willie Neal, went to visit Cam last night. Akers is home from FSU for a few days. Step-dad's exact words were if Cam had gone to TSUN, "Man we would have been set for 10 years at least. I mean not have to work for 10 years."
Apparently the deal was $100,000 on signing day, $3,000 per month while in school ($108,000 total if there only 3 years), and then $100,000 after playing time ended. Now, I'm in the financial services field and know that $308,000 doesn't really set you up for 10 years without working at all. But if they had kept working as normal and taken the money to invest it, then yeah, after 10 years or so, they could have had about $750,000 or so at about an 8% rate of return.
And, this isn't even considering the job delivering cars that the step-dad already had been given by Cannon Motors (a job which he lost after signing day).
I always find it fascinating to get factual confirmation of what we all know has been going on for years. As the saying goes, "The Death Is In the Details." In this case, hopefully the "NCAA Death Is In The Details."
Just another example of the desperation. Thank goodness Cam's family was not that stupid.

What's sad and I think you kind of alluded to this- if he had gone to Ole Miss and they had gotten the 750K vs. going to FSU and gotten millions by making it in the NFL, he would have made a terrible decision.
-
FSU will get him more ready for the league which is what really matters monetarily in the short term (3 years from today). A cpl hundred k is pocket change for a guy like that.

I can see why that is so hard for recruits to turn down. That can change the entire trajectory of many families. In the words of sCam Newton's dad "the money was too much".
Let's be honest if OM's track record with RBs were not so terrible they probably would have got him.
I'm still curious on why he didn't even consider State.
Death penalty or bust!!!***

That's why they sign these kids. They feel the need to take care of their families even though they have no desire to go there.

That place needs to be quarantined.

I kind of suspect he got some jack from FSU.

That was Cam.
"I'm so sorry Miss Megan, but the money was too much."

The $300,000 offer you mention matches perfectly to the number I was given by a very reliable source. But if anyone thinks he went to FSU for free then I have some ocean front property in Arizona I'd like to sell you. Also, the same source said Ole Miss had been making payments to the family since he was in 8th grade. Why do I keep hearing a certain Steve Miller song in my head?

I'd wager two reasons: 1.) no money 2.) it wouldn't be all about him

There appears to be something wrong with these numbers.

Yeah, it was worded a little poorly. 100k on signing day + 3k month for 3 years (3*12*3000=108000) + 100k upon graduation (given that he uses Tunsil's OMU appointed agent) would be 308k total.

He's saying $100,000 PLUS ANOTHER $108,000 for being in school for three years, so $208,000 total.

3.) Riding the pine for 2-3 years behind lesser RBs because apparently RB pass blocking schemes are rocket science.

Yea I doubt he's going hungry. Kids have figured Ole Miss out also. They can play them for money and dump them at the alter.

Explains why he had no interest in State if his family was on the dole since his 8th grade. Probably a stipulation in the "contract".
