Football: how many can we sign this year?

It looks like from 247 that we signed 23 last cycle. Does that mean we can sign 27 this cycle and "count back" 2, keeping us at 25 for this cycle?

I don't believe there is anymore counting back, right? You can sign 25 in one class, period.

I've read that you can count back December signees, but I'm looking for clarity.

From what I gather, if you sign under 25 the previous cycle you can can count back December signees from this cycle to get your previous cycle up to 25, then still sign 25 this cycle. Can anybody confirm?

We can sign 27 as long as two are early entrants, I believe.

Ok, for some reason I thought they had changed that rule and made it a hard 25 cap, but I guess not.

    I thought that too.

Maybe it's that if you send somebody scholarship papers and they sign but don't make it to campus, you can no longer replace them with an early enrollee? Or did they maybe change it to a academic year rather than calendar year as far as where early enrollees count?

It is a 25 hard cap - per calendar year.

We don't have but 21 or 22 spots under the 85 limit, that will limit us unless we have some attrition. It goes back to having to red shirt some JUCO's last year like Rivers, Phillips and Cole. They will be counting against our 85 for 1 year longer than was anticipated.

Sign the max anyway and count on attrition, voluntary attrition or encouraged attrition.

We'll sign at least 25. I would sign 27 & make it work.

What is the penalty if you sign 30? I mean if you have the roster space, what are you to do. Play with less than 85 schollys?

I guess theoretically, you would catch up at 25 per year signing.

Currently, we are close to the 85 number (that includes adding Webb who currently is questionable). Yes we currently ONLY have ~21/22 spots for '19 class (that includes loss of Bryant, Todd and Heath) BUT does NOT include any attrition in the next 13.5 months (and there is ALWAYS attrition) NOR any 'leaving early for NFL like Simmons, maybe SA#39 or even Rivers if he is as good as some say.

Even when we sigh a number to get up to 85, someone has personal issues, grades (Bryant), transfers to play or can't qualify (Malik).

Hope this staff is better than last in managing the roster.

I don't know how many we can sign, but it looks like UNM can sign at least 40!** They have 24 commits now (Ms Made) and I'm sure that they would never "process" any of these student athletes before the two signing dates! They will need to sign at least 40 to mathematically stay in the top 15 rating. Hail State!
