    Smoking Wood

I recently got a starter offset smoker and I'm having a little trouble striking a comfortable balance between selection, quality, and economy as far as fuel goes, so I thought I'd get a little survey: where do you stick burners on here get your wood?

If it is chips or chunks, I would soak the wood for at least 2 hours so it would not burn up as quickly. I hickory by the bag at Walmart.

I'm no expert, but I always soaked until someone talked me out of it. I had the same taste results but a much better bark, so I don't soak anymore. Just my thoughts.

I guess I’m fortunate to have a bunch of fruit trees, hickory, oak, and cherry trees on my property. Ill go grab a dead limb or two and cut them into discs on the chop saw. Peach wood is my favorite. Apple and cherry are good too. I hardly ever use the hardwoods.
