When should the play have been stopped? Play is never stopped when a defensive player is down, so it couldn’t have been stopped when Tenn was driving with the ball. Once Tenn missed their shot and we got the rebound with a run out, transition opportunity, they shouldn’t stop it then either.
If the refs had stopped the play while we were on a break-away and Nick had popped up, you’d be pissed that the refs “stole points” from us. The sad reality is that Nick’s worst injury came from the Tenn player landing on his neck after our transition attempt was complete. Fluke accidents happen.

This guy understands the reality of sports. Perfect analysis.

Player safety is the first responsibility of the referees, yes play should absolutely have been stopped!

Play should have been stopped when MSU got possession of the ball.....

Watching the replay there is no way the refs would have thought to stop play. Players go down all the time.

Play should have been stopped. There isn't any good argument for it not to be.

Should have been stopped. The player was defenseless on the ground.
No I would not have been pissed about them stopping a fast break.
No it was not a fluke. We all saw it coming. You can hear it in the audience.

Play shouldn't have stopped. Nick has his head up and is tending to his hip.

Here's Howland's comment on it:
Howland was asked if the game should’ve been stopped when Nick Weatherspoon was down.
“They let it go,” Howland said. “They don’t know the severity of the injury at the time, so I get it.”
Even he didn't think our fast break should've been stopped.

At the time he was screaming at them to stop play. If he says anything against the refs the SEC will fine him. That is a league rule.

Bullshit. Go watch the replay. He's yelling at Nick to "GET UP" when Tenn is running the court. When the play is coming back to our end of the floor, he isn't saying anything.

So the play continues regardless? Hell if we had six players on the court they would have stopped it. They should have notice we only had four players and when the ball switched possession they should have stopped it. It wasn't like the guy was going to be at the other end of the court talking to the cheerleaders.

They normally do stop the play once the team with the player down gets possession unless they steal the ball and are on the fast break which we were. Y'all are nitpicking ten seconds of live play and expecting the refs to realize Nick is really hurt and about to get even more hurt unless they do something they aren't supposed to do which is stop play during back to back fast breaks.
